O.K took the brake master cyl. off today, sludgy, gooie inside, bit of corosion & slight scoring on the inner wall, l dont know if the contamination of the fluid is from the car sitting around for a couple of years without use &/or topping up with differant types of fluid  l cleaned all the parts up & put it back into use, bleed all 4 wheels ,Now the brake pedal is extremly firm when pushed , way to firm, feels rock hard,  l adjusted the pedal under the dash to give around 1/4inch play but that hasnt helped, So im wondering Which is the correct DOT fluid to use on these old gals?? Could this be the problem?

Hey 50plus, I reckon the flexible brake hoses have swelled up on the inside and need to be replaced.
