What if 50 years ago, someone buried a brand new FC Holden, with the stipulation that it be unearthed at the 50th Anniversay celebrations at Mt Gambier? Can you imagine the excitment that would be building right now?
Back in those days I don't imagine anyone would've thought there'd be a legion of FE and FC fans around to care about it.... or a Nationals for that matter...
This is slightly off topic because it's not Holden related, but I read an article yesterday about a town (in amercia of course) that did exactly that.... on June 15, 1957 they buried a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere in a concrete vault specially built to house the car. They essentially used the car as a "time capsule" and filled it with all sort of stuff from the town from the era... wedding photos, gasoline, postcards, beer, handbags etc etc....
The big unveiling was 50 years later on the 15th of June, 2007.
Unfortunately for the town they built the vault strong enough to survive a bomb, but they didn't make it waterproof
When they dug it out, water needed to be pumped from the vault and the car was rusted!! it was completely covered in mud and only a little of the chrome survived well..... They originally thought they'd be able to start it straight away!!
It looked like this on the big unveil stage...
Just an interesting thought though..... These days the "barn finds" are probably in better nick, but if there was an FC buried somewhere....
