Was it ever factory fitted to an fe?

As my car has the holes and need to know if i have to weld up.

Could you expand a bit on that? What trim, exactly where?

If you're referring to FC chrome fins, no they were never fitted to FEs originally, but a common aftermarket touch.

Wouldn't say aftermarket, more 'retro fitted original accessory'.
There was probably more than a few fitted to OK used cars as they came up in the Holden yards also. They would have had to try something to make a boring used FE look like it's more appealing, stylish replacement - the FC.  Wink

Let's not get into that shitfight Alex. Everyone knows the FE was all understated elegance, design wise while the FC....., well let's just say that as a Chev wannabe, it weren't!

I don't think we need to mention;

the switch from stainless to steel hubcaps
 deletion of the stainless gutter moulds
 deletion of the eyebrow over the front number plate
 deletion of the bonnet mascot
 simplification of the front guard spears
move to one piece rather than three piece boot badge
elimination of individually coloured floor mats
reduction in interior trim combos from around 12 to 7 before GMH realised they had gone too far in late 1959 and introduced the white top seats with new colours
elimination of interior sunvisor piping
reduction to one or two colours of windlacing
elimination of individually coloured seat surrounds

Yes you're right Alex, everywhere you look the FC was better, as long as all you count is extra exterior glitz.

Ed, it is stitched but is not piping as you see on MGs etc, it is the same as the material edge FCs sunvisors have, just that its in the contrasting colour. I will find and send a photo.

I have a dull recollection of it, but a pic would be really useful.

There's an upholsterer next door and Im actually getting a few things fixed up and some colour matched floor mats made up, while the car is off the road.

on original topic... I like FC chrome extension fins.

Now I've never understood that try-hard Chev argument. I reckon the FE looks a lot more like a miniature '55 shoe-box than an FC does (55 or 56). I've never thought either looks like an Austin though. That's a new one on me...

I lesson I have learn on the forum never get in to FE V FC debate. Like I always say the FE = First Edition and FC = First Classic or First Class. You know how it is it took 25+ years to get the dunny door right a lot of models through out the history had series I & II, series I always had some problem that need to be fixed hence series II. I always equate the FE Holden to the VB Dunny door, look at the monumental cock-ups with that model it was ugly and even came out with an Opel 4 cylinder "WHAT THE"

Me personally think that the FE was ever meant to be the platform for the development of the much superior and highly successfull release of the FC Holden range of vehicles. I am sure that the sales statistics of the FC far out weigh that of the FE.

Agreed Jim, but a bit of banter back and forward is good for the car gods (just as long as it doesn't get personal) It's funny, to be honest when I was thinking of a project I would have told you fe\fc would have been low on the list, its funny how things change, I am now paying out cash each week on some obscure part on a car that is completely pulled apart , go figure Shocked

Lots of people walk up to my car ask is that an EH, EK, FB, FC?

No it's an FE..

the look i get in response is F*$&ing Eh?  yep an FE.
