41  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: FC rear Venetian wanted. on: June 29, 2020, 07:40:32 PM
Gents,
Apart from an old Venetian I’m hunting for, the only other thing the old girl needs is a choke butterfly shaft.

The old chap I bought the car from said many years ago the choke butterfly still worked, but the idle up linkages never worked.
It’s starts ok with no choke, but I have to keep playing with the throttle for a few minutes before she idles ok.

I had a look, and the idle up was frozen, but I freed it up in 10 minutes, but the choke shaft doesn’t work the idle up.

I guess the inside of it is stripped as one end works, but the other doesn’t.

It’s been a long time since I played with one of these.

Good info Dave, thanks.

I think I will wait for an original item, the car has a lot of age to it, so something shiny new would look a bit out of place.

Oh dear.

Did you get a chance to see what I was meaning about the drooping in their images mate?

Gents,
Has anyone bought the Venetian supplied by rare spares to suit the FC?

Hi Clay,
I had a look at their blinds, and I’m not a fan of the shape.

If you check out some of their pics, they seem to drop or droop then the shape changes again.

The FB or NASCO part was straight all the way across.

I have a 69 Shovel nose Corona I am just waking up after 25 years in a shed, and I wanted one to protect the mint condition seats in it as well. But same deal, looks odd in the pics.

Hi Rob.
No just for me mate, my garage is a bit tight, and I drive very close to brickwork on the drivers side, so I wouldn’t mind that view down the side of the car.

Thanks mate.

I’ll send an enquiry
47  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: FC rear Venetian wanted. on: June 10, 2020, 03:13:18 PM
Thanks mate,
I’ll check em out.
How will I find them?

The one I had on my FB was awesome, covered in crud and mild surface rust blemishes.
Mr Sheen made it look unreal, but still kept its age.

I don’t really want to muck around with this cars time capsule originality, but it pains me to drive it, or park it out in the sun. Just worried about the rear seat area.

Oh,
And I think I am just going to have to put some type of external mirror on it  Cry

Hi Guys and girls.

I am after a good used rear Venetian with nice patina on it, but not a rusty one.

I’m in the Penrith area and collect anywhere in the Sydney metro, south coast or north coast areas.

Many thanks in advance.

Ps
Sorry I tried posting on the link mentioned, but could not do so.

You’re probably spot on there mate.

Like the typical pommy bikes and cars, the owners say they run better when they leak :-)

Good One Harv,

I've just fixed my oil leak, so now I will have to change my oil more regular. Sad

52  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Engine oil level ,with external filter on: June 01, 2020, 08:59:29 AM
Gents,

We also have to remember, that when this accessory was brought out, these cars were used every day, if not many times during the same day, so the very slight drain back through the cam bearings would probably be almost nil between start ups.

This way, yes it worked very well and as intended.

The problem now is, that sometimes these cars are not driven for days, weeks or even months, so all oil has completely been removed from upper areas including the add on filter, this then leaves it horribly void of oil during that critical start time.

The Fram filter sounds a whole lot smarter than the original accessory.

Some good points there Rod.

As it was only an accessory, it’s not really needed as long as the oil is changed as per the book.

In most cases it looks like a horrible afterthought, which what it actually is.

I think you made the best decision to remove it, as I don’t like the sound of a noisey engine when it’s trying to fill something while the oil is not where it is really needed during start up which is the most critical time.
54  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: '59 FC Sticky front brakes. on: May 29, 2020, 05:57:10 AM
Looking forward to the results when you get everything all fitted up Brian.

Just remember to give the brakes a good bed in, before any emergency stopping.
Maybe a second adjustment will be required after a month or two, then you are all good to go.

Brian,

I can see you grinning from ear to ear while writing your post.

What a terrific result.
