3  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Amp gauge wiring on: January 10, 2023, 11:06:46 AM
Hi Wasim, are you committed to an ammeter? Voltage guage is much safer and provides useful info. Putting a fuse between alternator and battery runs the risk of damaging the alternator if it blows while charging. With a voltmeter you can fuse all the other circuits with a main fuse, but keep a direct unfused cable between battery and alternator. Modern high output alternators are well beyond the range of common ammeters as well.
If you are running a generator there are no dramas fusing the feed or risk of outgrowing an ammeter😀.

5  General / General Board / Replacing sills on utes on: October 13, 2021, 06:35:34 PM
Hi, I have to replace the inner, middle and outer sills on an EK ute. Given the ute bodie rears are similar to FE, FC, I'm wondering if anyone on the forum can help me work out how you get the bits from the door to the wheel well fitted up. I can mount the inner sill with the rest opened up, but am struggling to work out how you attach the outer sill if you weren't replacing the bottom section of the panel. If you were doing a rust repair on the quarter panel, how do you attach it to the outer sill given the lack of access from the back?
Are there any projects that show this work?
Many thanks
 Brett

Has anyone got the right angle bar that holds the battery down? It's for an FB but think they are the same? I'm after wing nuts too but not as urgent.
Many thanks
Brett.

I had a bit of a read up. According to Holden, up to 1963 at least,  Lucas starters are not supposed to be undercut, Bosch starters are 1/32inch  undercut.

My understanding is that for generators you ensure the commutator insulation strips are below the copper, but not for starters. Might be wrong.

Yeah its a great paint, sticks well and goes on easy and finishes evenly. Where I ran into trouble was trying to go over it with something else. It was dry when I attempted over coats, so it might be like POR15 and must be overcoated when tacky.

I've used it too. However, I had real problems getting anything (acrylic lacquer, underbody spray on goop and seam sealer) to bond to it. I now only use it on things that are not going to require any further cover. It could have been my preparation, not sure.

15  General / General Board / Grey motor rebuilds Mogo lost to fires today on: December 31, 2019, 06:45:17 PM
Many of you know Brad Stevens as a magician with grey motors. He and his wife Carol lost everything today in the NSW coastal fires. A very sad day. You can find him on Facebook/greymotorrebuilds if you wish to message him.
