750  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / front seat mounting blocks .. on: October 29, 2018, 07:12:14 AM
My FC has plastic spacer or mounting blocks under the front bench seat ,they have broken into many small bits ..Cant find any reference in manual ..Rare Spares don't show them ..Are they original equip ? Or after market option ? ..Or where can I get them ...
751  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: WTB grey motor cam followers on: October 24, 2018, 06:50:02 AM
Fraze ..You can face the end of the lifter in a valve refacer , Im not sure on this point though ,either the cam lobe is tapered or the original face of the lifter is convex ,so that as the lifter rises it also turns in the block , also if you are mixing and matching ,there are different depth followers ,so you may have to get push rods also to suit the followers inside depth ..I had the followers and push rods that I have all laid out to select the best ,when I realised there were different length push rods ...only way I know is measure and pair the correct rod length with the follower you choose or obtain ..Vern
752  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Front brakes locking up on: October 21, 2018, 08:09:57 AM
Gents ..Thanks for the tips here on brakes ..I have done all the usual things to old brakes on my resto that have not been touched for years ,and put it all back together ,I most likely will strike some initial problems till they function correctly ,I note from what you have outlined  that its not just a one off lot of adjustments ,its an on going methodical approach to keep it that way..these tips may well be the answer and save time to what I may ponder over when it happens ..Vern .
753  General / General Board / Re: Power Plus Engine Enamel on: October 16, 2018, 09:14:10 PM
Hi Jim ..The engine in mine is a EK block ,very smokey , A friend of mine when learning I picked up a FC to restore ,he rang me and said I have a few Holden parts for you come and get em ,( sadly he has not been in best of health )..There was a '58 engine with L series number ..he said that was a good motor till I pranged the car  ..so I pulled it down ,it has been bored 3.1/16'' plus .030 ..std mains and big ends ..all miked up within tolerances and plasti gauge. new piston rings ,new gaskets ,new brass welch plugs ,full head service ,weight balance of rods and pistons, honed the bore ,runs nicely on test rig , 135psi in each cylinder .so head has been machined...gear box seems ok .whilst I could drive a bit on our acres..but I will pull it down and put a kit in it ..don't know about the clutch ,where would you buy a clutch kit ? ..Vern
754  Galleries / Members' Completed FE-FC Projects / Re: my8thholden Build on: October 16, 2018, 08:54:44 PM
Body colour in the engine bay until '59 covers mine as it's a '58 model … I suppose my grey is a bit light ,some are more green in the paint ..I am happy with the colour, though ..
755  Galleries / Members' Completed FE-FC Projects / Re: my8thholden Build on: October 16, 2018, 07:28:12 AM
I have had the car as a drivable rolling chassis whilst I stripped it ..Have now removed the drive shaft , the engine and gear box ,as one unit ,exhaust system ,radiator etc ..It appears the engine bay was originally Ivory and over painted in Black...What is the official view on painting the engine bay ,I rather like the idea of Ivory ,( same as exterior colour )it looks neat and clean, why were some cars black originally ? , is there a reason people go to the trouble of changing engine bay colour ? ..Vern
756  General / General Board / Re: Power Plus Engine Enamel on: October 16, 2018, 07:10:44 AM
Jim .Did you rebuild your engine ?
757  General / General Board / Re: Power Plus Engine Enamel on: October 15, 2018, 08:11:56 AM
Jim ..The correct Grey Holden engine colour is not clear ..There is info on this forum ,also comment on the various tones , and on display days one can see several variations on completed cars ..When cleaning my block there were three old coats all different ,same with the "Stoneleigh" Grey for Ferguson tractors ,go to open days and you will see multiple shades ,all swearing blind they used the " official " Fergy colour...I used the heat proof Dupli Color Holden Grey...Vern
758  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: Timing gear oil seal on: October 04, 2018, 07:18:55 PM
Available at local Bearing and Seal outlet .bought mine North Shore Bearings at Hornsby off the shelf ..double lipped ,don't forget to pack between the lips with high melt point grease ,reason being the inner lip does its job ,the outer one is dry and will burn ( scorch maybe ) helps to prolong life ,don't forget to centre seal on crank before tightening the cover.
