Technical Board / Restoration Help / gearbox inspection plate - floor

Hi all
Is there a difference between the FB and FC plates.
My ute was missing hers when I got it but I thought I was right as we have a donor FB and so I took the plate out of it - looked pretty good. But went to fit it today and it doesn't sit quite right in the space and the holes do not line up with the ones in the ute floor.
Ive had a look at a couple of other ones for sale and they all say FE - EK and I'm wondering if they don't fit them all?

Sorry Helen, I was referring to the sedan, I’d forgotten that the post was about ute doors, pays to check before posting comments!! Jim
All good - there were some inner seals that came with the Ute from the previous owner who had started the resto- I had given them to hubby for his FB and was thinking I'll have to steal them back !

Helen,
You're right. You'd need to raid a Special for the door jamb switches and wiring. And hopefully you don't have to run a wire up to the dome lamp for the courtesy switches.
Rob
Ah hadn't thought about the wire up to the dome lamp - that one may be a bit more tricky - will have to have a good look at the wiring - might just leave them if its not there - a job maybe if I ever replace the hood lining

I have a correction to make in my post from last night, the inner door seal actually goes from top to bottom, not from the waistline as I had stated. It kept me awake for a while thinking about it, so I checked it out and found a picture of the seal in place on a used pillar that confirmed my suspicions. Jim
Door seal and windlacing aligator strip1 by Helen Sheedy, on Flickr Hi Jim - are you referring to the windlacing? I thought the Ute's didn't have an inner seal?

There was a really little steering wheel on it and getting the boss of was FUN ! not. steering wheel by Helen Sheedy, on Flickr Can anyone enlighten me re the courtesy lights - I hear rumours the utes did not come with them installed, as you can see the holes are in the door jams - but there is no wiring for them that I can find.

I'm hoping my understanding is correct - the windlacing is pushed inside the same "alligator" strip that the headlining is pushed into around the doors - I haven't done mine yet - been scratching my head about how to remove the two pack overspray that was on my headlining !!! Last weekend bit the bullet and took it off with paint stripper (put on and quickly wiped off!). It is better but still has a pinkstain :-(

im still lost .are we talking about the pinchweld seal now?
I usually refer to the harder rubber seal - not sure if they all have metal in the middle - as pinchweld. Windlacing is like cording in upholstery - fabric covering a rubber/foam core that goes on the innerdoor opening

Thank you, another question are the ute door seals available? If so where from? And do Utes have an inner door seals as per sedans? My ute looks to have never had inner seals.
Thanks Dave
They have an inner seal and windlacing, no outerseal

Helen,
Put them in a glass case in the pool room. Or advertise them for $50 each on eBay. Pure unobtainium. I use the rubber equivalents that Rare Spares sell.
Rob
the rest are rubber and I will get another - just a shame to chuck it or have it demolished in a box of nuts an bolts = maybe that glass case !

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Windscreen trim fitting

Hi all looking at putting my front windscreen in - have the special rubber and the stainless trim. finding it tricky putting the trim in around the bottom, the trim doesn't seem to curve enough, put one end in and the other end pops up by quite a bit, any tricks to getting the trim to stay in place in the rubber prior to putting in in the opening?

Nice work mate. What was the issue with the front spring bolts? I'll be putting my rear end in soon.
Sorry skipped over your question. -you may already know this but for those who haven't done it before it's not that obvious. When you get the new rubber bushes - they are a tad longer than the length of the stud with the nut on, also if you put them both in the eye first - it will not go into the hanger. Worked out - eventually - one bush goes in the leaf eye on the outside side, position the eye in the hanger, put the other rubber bush into the hanger on the inside side through to the eye, put the stud in on that side and then take some frustration out on the stud head and - evenly - bash it until the rubber is pushed through enough for the nut to go on, tighten up - voila!
