2  Technical Board / General Technical / Windscreen wipers on: March 23, 2006, 09:18:40 PM
Hi all

Yesterday arvo a mate and i installed a cd player in his fe. we took it for a test drive and all was going well until smoke started pouring from under the dash. We pulled over and found the problem to be that he hadnt put enough electrical tape around where he had joined a wire so it was exposed and live and it was touching the tight metal coil that runs under the dash- not sure what its for or what it is connected to. we fixed the join and tested everything and it all seemed ok.
However he has just rung me and said his wipers arnt working- or rather he turned the nob and they didnt work but 15mins into his drive to work they slowly came on. Knowing nothing about the vaccum wipers im not sure what makes them work so wouldnt begin to understand where the fault could be or if it is directly related to what happened yesterday.
Any light on the situation would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Hi all
I had to take the fc off the market a while back because the purchase of a new car fell through.
however this time i have lined up a car that the seller cant pull out of so i am in urgent need to sell the station sedan

There is a little more rust coming through at the front of the sill drivers side and the paint has cracked a little in the corner of the passengers side rear door. i can email pics to those that are interested.
The car is located in Brisbane.
It is a daily driver

rear and side venetians
cd player in glovebox

7  Technical Board / General Technical / ##URGENT##swapping over a gearbox on: January 20, 2006, 03:34:36 AM
Hi all

here I am again at the mercy of the forums infinate wisdom.
I have to put a new gearbox in the fc and dont want to pay $250 to have it done. I have got a secondhand box- big thanks to geoff.
I have tomorrow off work so am going to tackle it myself.
I have an old workshop manual but it is a repro one from supercheap and the details arent too clear to me. it says i have to first drain and remove the radiator and go from there. but im not sure if this is necessary???
its just the gearbox i need 2 swap, the clutch- pressure plate are 12months old.
i have all the tools. i have small ramps to get the car up on and i have a trolley jack to support the engine.
So any and all the advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. If any1 has a proper manual with set by step instructions that they could scan that would be great and if some1 could translate it into laymens terms that would be even better Grin
I will be logging on at 5am tomorrow morning to get the info and start from then so if you could post any knowlege before then that would be great.

Many thanks in advance.
Paul

Thanks for that dave
its funny how it takes you so long to do something the first time and i bet if some1 asked you to do it now youd get it done in a quarter of the time it originally took Grin Grin
10  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: recon gearbox on: December 08, 2005, 08:22:03 PM

nicko i am after the one piece.
i can get a recon kit the only trouble is i cant get work off even for a couple of days to take my car off the road while it is getting done.

12  Technical Board / General Technical / recon gearbox on: December 07, 2005, 08:51:03 AM
hi all

ive just got a quote for a fully reconditioned gearbox $950 and then $250 installation

does this sound about right?

the gearbox i have now was "reconditioned " before i bought it 6 months ago and cost $600 but is now making a racket in 1st and 2nd and loosing alot of oil.

does any1 have a recon. box that they are willinng to part with? Cheesy Cheesy

if i do get my hands on 1 could i swap the new 1 with the old 1 myself or is it best left to the experts?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers Paul

Thank you all so very much for helping me out with this. Pretty easy when u can see it all in pictures in front of you. what originally took me 2 1/2 hours has just taken me 15minutes.
just shows how important this forum is when such a novice is given so much information on a seemingly simple thing. All very much appreciated guys.

so does the outside edge stick out or does it sit flat against the tyre?
Has anyone heard of or know of any suppliers that have them- any in Qld?

Cheers Paul

16  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Im going to kill myself with the clutch spring on: October 19, 2005, 07:47:42 PM
is the spring supposed to be relaxed or flexed when the clutch pedal is engaged? it would make sense that it is flexed and if this is the case then i cant get the spring anywhere near the leaver on the clutch when it is not engaged. the only time i can get it close is when the pedal is in the engaged position which means the spring would be relaxed in the engaged position- if that makes any sense to anyone  Huh Huh
17  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Im going to kill myself with the clutch spring on: October 19, 2005, 07:13:14 PM
Thanks guys

i have tried to wegde a peice of wood in but i still cant get the top of the pedal back far enough to hook the long part of the spring on. it comes up about an inch short. there are the two bolts that go in the piece that the spring hooks onto and i have taken the bottom one out to give it more leverage to hook the spring on but this does not work either. which end should be hooked on first- the pedal or dash end?
18  Technical Board / General Technical / Im going to kill myself with the clutch spring on: October 19, 2005, 07:45:43 AM
Hi all

I had some squeeking in my clutch pedal so i took it off to give it a good grease up. and now i cant for the life of me work out how to get the spring back on.
Firstly doest the part on the clutch pedal that the spring attaches to face the engine bay when it is properly mounted? secondly are the hooks of the spring supposed to be at right angles to each other- ie when the sping is lying flat is one hook supposed to be horizontal and the other vertical? Thirdly where exactly does the other end of the spring attach to? do i have to take the front of the dash out to do this? my be bleedingly obvious to most of you but i have no idea so any help will be appreciated and as soon as possible would be great because im about to slit my wrists with this spring  Wink

Cheers Paul
