Technical Board / General Technical / FE Bonnet Macots
|
on: October 17, 2003, 12:56:28 AM
|
I have just received the second of two FE Bonnet Mascots that I purchased recently. I thought that they would be the same - so much for thinking...
The smaller one Part number: 7118656 MCL 2 Length: 11 1/2" or 29.5 cm Height: 2" or 5cm. Appearance: smooth with rounded edges.
The larger one Part Number: Holden 7406001-39 Length: 16" or 41 cm Height" 4" or 10 cm. Appearance: smooth with angled edges, top raised similar to a cupola, being wider too. Back edge 'fishtailed.'
Are they both Holden pieces? Is one an aftermarket item?
Thanks

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Old Holden seat mod?

I think you wanna be careful when mucking around with seats like that. I asked something similar a few years ago for one of my Morris 1100s and was told not to bother as that type of mod for a seat required an engineers certificate (something to do with seat frame behaviour in a crash).
Removeable headrests, similar to those in some smaller Jap cars & Taragos, would look okay on a Holden Bench seat because they have chrome legs, hole surrounds (bezels or escutcheons) and are removeable - IMO.

For a little off model, every one that I've seen has been the light green underneath. Close colour match would be the old Airfix M8 colour.
Cars I've seen it on: 2 x Morris 1100 S (mine), 3 x HQ (friends & neighbours), 2 x XW Fairmonts (friends), 6 x VW Type 1 (one friend's family), 1 x VE Regal (mine), 1 x VF Regal (mine) and many other cars in wrecking yards. I haven't seen any fitted to blue cars that I can remember though

Bucko,
Sorry to hijack your thread again...
I'll bring the Vic FE to the Sydney meeting on Tuesday - I live about 1km from the meeting place. I'll apply for club membership at the meeting too.

Ahh Mr 4 Hammers. I got one, bloke over the road gave it to me years ago, after he polished it up. Hot looking rocker cover - that's for sure. When I fitted it, I masked off the fins and painted the valleys red.
BTW, not for sale.

Craig,
Who did your bumpers for Baby Pooh? I've just purchased an FE which needs the bumpers etc to be done. I'm in Fairfield, Sydney. Seems almost worthwhile to send mine off to Victoria (the car just came from there... :-/)
BTW, you might have the Pooh car, but mine has a Pooh Motor. The people that I bought it off had painted the 161 with brown heat proof stove enamel. When I clean the dust etc off the engine, I'll post some pictures.
Cheers

Well Bucko, I've just recovered from buying an FE 'unseen' through Ebay. I went and collected it in person, prepared to 'argue' it out with the seller if it wasn't as described. I had an interesting drive home on Wednesday night. I can tell you that poor bailey channels & worn quarter vent seals makes for a very loud car at high speeds!! I put a wad of tissue paper in each ear after the first five minutes - they stayed in for the full 11 1/2 hour drive. My FE - has a 161, crash box, HR Disc brake front end, Hadfield chassis kit and no structural rust. The interior wants some repairs and paint, and the RTA wants an Engineer's Certificate, but besides that, its a good car (you get to know the ting after a 1,000 km drive ) Spinner

The 130 CID Red Motor did indeed exist as an export only engine. I travelled in a HT Staion Wagon Taxi in Fiji fitted with one. 3 mates & I went on the Fairstar in 1985, all of us were heavily into the HK/HT/HG range, between our friends that stayed & us we had 12 at once. Anyway, we singled out this taxi, ignoring the EK and other Jap cars for this HT. The driver was impressed with our knowledge of the model and let us inspect his (poorly maintained) taxi. The engine block had '130' cast into the engine identifyer pad and the engine number started with 130. I don't remember the rest of the number - it was the first 130 that we had seen (and the only one thus far) outside of the mentions in the workshop & owners manuals.
Cheers

What a bugger!!! I saw the seat this morning and thought it could wait until I come around to pick up some other stuff. Ah well, teach me to answer straight away. Some of the other gear might prove interesting though... Spinner
