It's ok. Now we know where  the original trophy is we can use that again. It won't fall apart either.

There is an interesting story about the sports trophy.

The trophy has lived at my place since the Perth Nats. This is actually the 2nd trophy. We still don,t know where the original trophy is. The ACT club had this one made up for the Jindabyne Nats from memory. We won it at Orange then carted it to Perth only to bring it back to the ACT. It was never engraved from either Nats. I forgot to take it to Tassie. When we were at Wangaratta on the way down I remembered it. Wangaratta is a 5 hour drive for us. We discussed it and decided not to do anything about it as we would probably bring it home again anyway. (Sorry about that bit).

Dave Potter, anawares to us, had contacted Jodie, Beetroot on this forum, who was flying down on Good Friday, to go to my place and get the trophy. Luckily we had a house sitter, she was contacted and arrangements made for Jodie to pick up the trophy. Now, we could'nt pass on an unengraved trophy, so Jode made arrangements for the trophy to be engraved. There was a problem with the nameplate so the plate on the trophy is now a new one from scratch.

Because Jodie was flying and the size of the trophy and because of the engraving problem the trophy was now in pieces. Which was fine because it now fitted in her luggage. So Jodie arrived in Hobart with a trophy in her bags. When I turned up to inspect the trophy it was late, I had had a couple of drinks, it was all wrapped up in pieces and I attempted to assemble it. Now because Jode was tired and I was being pushy I was told to P off and come back tomorrow. It was then that it was discovered that we needed a 7/16" long socket to tighten it all. Of course no- one had one, so the hunt went on. One was found and the trophy was presented.

Queenslanders: enjoy the trophy.

Are they FE or FC? They are different.

Graham, weve just finished assembling a "new" FC. The interior light we were using blew the fuse every time we opened a door. It turned out that the switch on the light itself was shorting out,. Took that out of the equation and everything is now fine. Make sure it's your wiring before attempting something drastic.

Gday Bill. You can add Colin & Jacky Tierney and Dave & Jodie Potter to that list. I presume you wont have meat on the sangas as it is Good Friday? (Jacky doesn't eat meat on her sangas)

Regards,

Just thinking out loud; if you get a late head, the one with two tapped holes where the temp sender and heater fitting go, it would be easy to convert to two extra water outlets, two fittings and some plumbing.

I'm sure the racers use these heads to get better water flow back from the back of the head.

People still have the Vauxhall cranks done, pretty expensive though I would imagine.

The guy in Canberra who does my machining work keeps a heap in his shop. Maybe try your machine shop rather than the retail stores?

I'm running a 220mm clutch in my FE and FJ. Both with greys and original gearboxes. Maybe I was just lucky, but I had no problems with either. I don't know that you can get the 200mm clutch. When looking for my FJ earlier this year I could only get the larger one. I got mine from Hotbitz in Blacktown.

Sounds to me like a problem behind the dash, as the others have indicated. Make sure all your dash wiring is in the right spots, I too have a separate earth from the dash carrier to the body as well as the indicator tell tales.

Rhys, if you need the whole housing I cant help you, however I have several 3.89 grey centres here. A lot of the guys go for 4cyl Torana or Sunbird centres which are 3.9 ratio but take the later style 6cyl uni joints. It is as simple as changing the rear uni joint. I don't know if I would use the original bolt up job. By going Nb you should be able to change this without having eligibility hassles.

Colin.

BTW, I'm in Canberra. You should be able to find a diff up there?

Have a look at the screw holes that hold the gearbox inspection cover in place. Ken can confirm this but I'm pretty sure that the early FC's had self tappers while the later models had set screws. (proper threads). It wouldn't be hard to turn an early into a 59. Yep, that engine is a NSW police restamp.
