Utes have a rounded rear edge on the side windows, so they are different from the sedans, If you need a RH window regulator most you will find are worn out or close to, LH ones are usually pretty good, its possible to convert a left to a right without too much effort.  thats what I did for mine
22  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: clutch pressure to hard after fitting 5 speed on: July 24, 2012, 10:35:04 PM
Is the spring under the dash still there? if it is, is it adjusted properly, it helps take some load off the pedal. There is some info on how to set it up in the workshop manual.  Use the bigest diameter slave cylinder (Toyota or Holden) with the smallest diameter master cylinder, that will give you maximum mechanical advantage. How far off the floor is the clutch engaging?

How well can you weld? there is an article on the web site that details what is necessary to complete the job  http://fefcholden.org.au/techinfo/tech002.html  this should help  Good luck!
25  For Sale and Wanted / Auction and Trade Links / Re: Triples ready to bolt on on: May 23, 2012, 10:21:12 PM
I rebuilt my own SU's 1 3/4"  they are quite a simple carb to work on, check the piston for wear and the pistons housing, the other area that can cause some grief is the throttle shaft if it has too much play can cause some running issues, although it is not difficult to get the carb body rebushed and add a new throttle shaft, check the mounting flange to make sure it's flat (if its not use a piece of glass and wet and dry) Make sure you get the metering needle centred properly in the main jet and they usually behave pretty well.  The other thing to remember with SU's is they like lower fuel pressure than what your fuel pump produces Stroms like about 7psi SU's 4psi.
Carburettor Service Co. In Burwood Sydney ( they were also help in suggesting what springs and needles to run) got me the bits and from memory I spent about $150 Midal also do bits for them
People often complain about them going out of tune but those people usually have dodgy linkages, I have run them on lots of red sixes and love them

Try Flynn's at Cooma NSW he did have quite a few sedans last time I was there, a bit rough though, they are getting harder to find.  When I got my ute from him he emailed pictures etc, so that was helpfull  Flynns phone number is 64521866.  There was also a sedan at one of the wreckers in Goulburn near the show ground but it was very rough and not very complete an FE from memory

Some of you have probably already seen these, alternators that look like generators. Bit expensive though but tempting, some other interesting stuff on this site as well

28  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Starte Motor problems on: January 21, 2012, 01:06:06 PM
Kevin,
If you've got a test light or multi meter, take the wire off at the starter solenoid ( the push on terminal one) put the test light on the wire and get someone to operate the stater switch the light comes on when the switch is in start postion the fault is with the starter motor
29  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: fuel tank repairs on: December 21, 2011, 08:49:47 AM
Another way to purge the tank is to run exhaust gas through it.  The exhaust fumes remove the fuel vapour, make sure the exhaust gas you run through it is from a clean running vehicle, no miss fire, hot engine otherwise you could put more HC's (hydro carbons, unburnt fuel) in.

Late model car with a catalytic converter probably best,  I have repaired a few motorcycle tanks with this method successfully.

KBS does a tank liner, there are some others on the market as well.

There is a method of cleaning the inside of the tank using electrolysis, you need a battery charger washing soda and a headlight globe, if you're interested I can dig up the details.

I've had this at home for a while, my mate did this for me when I first told him about my plans for a ute.  It's not as good as some I've seen on here, but I think he does alright.  I am happy to have it on my wall, and the misses hasn't complaned.

31  General / General Board / Re: RTA gone (n.s.w.) on: December 05, 2011, 09:35:54 PM
It's meant to be a free country, isn't that the idea, but don't own a gun, don't modify your car, don't fish without a license, don't go in a national park. We need to get organised and lobby these pollies, it has worked for plenty of other minorities greens gays etc. perhaps we could get other groups on board if we helped with there causes.  The 4w drivers  a had win against the pedestrian council with their bull bars because they got organised.

Most of us have other interests, maybe we should start raising these issues with other clubs and get a bit organised.
Off the soap box now

Didn't know about the wiper switch, so I recycled a broken VK combination switch and made an adaptor. the other way would be easier, but I have recycled!

Also thought a steel flywheel would be good, so in the spirit of the old days I am turning one up, I know you can buy them, but wheres the fun in that?

33  General / General Board / Re: RTA gone (n.s.w.) on: December 05, 2011, 06:51:06 PM
I've been helping a guy with a Harley with after market frame, the engineer we were going to use, doesn't think he wants to part of it anymore (all recognised engineering signature had to reapply) he said he knew a lot of things that he has previously past have been called back for RTA inspection, they're making it hard for us again.

Is that just behind the FE?  Grin
35  Technical Board / General Technical / Rust treatment on: December 05, 2011, 06:38:51 PM
I've had lots of my FE sand blasted, but there are areas that you can't get to readily without half destroying the panels, like under the bonnet where the other skin is spot welded in.  I want to treat theses areas with something, there used to be a product called "Rust Converter" or something like that.  I'm sure lots of you have tried these products, what's the go ya reckon

36  Galleries / Project Cars - FEs and FCs Under Construction / Re: FE ute on: September 19, 2011, 10:58:43 PM
Have done a bit more, modified the FE column to take a VL top bearing then welded on the collapsible bit of the VL column bottom to the top of the FE assembly, the steering shaft is HQ top into a VL bottom.  Another trial fit of all the bits looks OK will have to reposition oil filter, I know you guys have done it all before,  whats that adapter that I've seen from a four cylinder?  The rack is Commo VB rear mount cut and shortened.

Just about time to get stuck into the body

37  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Fitting 253 308 cast iron standard headers any luck? on: August 25, 2011, 10:33:39 PM
Not sure if this is any help but I helped a mate with a similar problem with a 302 Windsor in a 36 Ford ute, I machined the gasket surface of the manifold at an angle, this then moved the exhaust pipe flange much closer to the block which gave us the clearance we needed to get past the steering box, also had to modify the holes a bit.

Not sure how much room you have,  Huh  maybe post some photos with a couple of dimensions, some one has probably done it before.
Good Luck
Mick

Good on you for saving these old cars, too much of this stuff gets wasted,  I'm a bower bird myself and even save stuff that I don't want, most of my friends are the same
Cheers Mick
39  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: Aunger Hotwires on: August 10, 2011, 09:15:34 AM
I may have what you are looking for, I have 4 13x7 hotwires off a Torana, may be of use to you depending on what brakes you're running (no good with HR disc's) PM if you want more info or location
Cheers Mick
