Michael, you could look at an EJ and compare the outrigger to an EH and see if its the same.
I'd imagine the EJ would be the same as an EH, but stand corrected since i havent seen an EJ.
I put an HR front (from an EK) into an EH, which would also suit an FE or FC.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Firewall to Skirt sealer?
|
on: July 03, 2002, 09:47:52 PM
|
Hi,
I have seen on a FE ute, a bead of mastik type sealer used where the firewall meets ths skirts in the engine bay.
Was told it was factory, and it seems like a good idea to keep out dust and moisture.
Was it a dealer option of "rust proofing", as the under side of the car was coated in waxy coating as well?
I havent seen it on many other vehicles.
Which body sealer would be the best to use to seal the gap between the firewall and skirt?
thanks
Ed

General / General Board / Re: New wagon rear quarter glass
|
on: July 01, 2002, 09:21:34 PM
|
Hi Ken, Having owned an EK and still owning an FE wagon, the rear side glass has always been a concern, especially finding good sets. 300 a pair is pricey, but understandably so. obviously the more you make, the less it costs as in all repro manufacture. On the weekend, i went to the wrecker looking for seatbelts, and fortuitously found an FC wagon, missing the front and floor but with rear doors and glass, needless to say, the wagon is minus those bits now. glass was 20 bucks a piece (not perfect but able to be polished clean). sometimes you just gotta be lucky .... Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Brake booster "type"

Digger,
the booster has two bolts vertically oppposed and a third smaller one just off to the clutch master side. I welded up the holes on the HK booster and redrilled them to suit the original FC brake master mounts. The third bolt I drilled a hole for it and welded a nut on the back of the metal plate.
I also made a strengthening arm located up the front of the booster to stop any potential movement whilst driving.

Hey Harko,
nice ride, fantastic job!, I remember poring over it last AHD, because there arent many chopped old holdens out there. Could I grab your email, I would like some advice from you, on a similar planned job. I have done most of my planning but need tips on a few finer details.
Email me ed-ho@ihug.com.au
Richard, Pictures are defintely forthcoming, bear with me as i dont even own a camera!... progress is good, I have it fit up and ready for colour, however, I may rework it to make it that little bit more special... Ed
PS why did Harko's post have only a red rendering yesterday and has returned with pics galore?

Nice rendering, but does your car actually look like this? or is to going to look like this, and if so, what stage are you up to? the idea looks good

|
Hello.. again...
I have trim code 245-568. looking on the trim specs under 568 and the model designation provided found it was Fall red and Parchment Ivory. Question, Does the 245 code mean anything? perhaps red on ivory or vice versa?
thanks

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Fitting FE Bonnet mascot/emblem
|
on: June 11, 2002, 09:48:40 PM
|
Hello,
I went to fit the bonnet mascot and emblem (ornament or whatever) and found it difficult to identify the exact positions for the holes.
Is there a template for these?
The bonnet was originally for an FC and I found the holes for the "L" and "D" the correct width but too low on the bonnet.
If anybody has the specs for the holes, it would help me.
Cheers

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Wilsonia Gauge
|
on: June 05, 2002, 01:17:37 AM
|
Hi, I have a Wilsonia Gauge, minus most of the copper pipe.
Are these gauges prone to leaking inside the cabin?
or does the flexibility of the copper pipe take up the engine vibrations adequately.
On another aside..
the fuel gauge and lettering of the Wilsonia has the top stroke of the E and F at a funny looking downward angle. Is this normal? Im thinking of using letraset or similar to remedy this..
thanks

rethought... after looking at those pics, my idea will have the weight too biased on one side. the pictured spit has the "pivot" in line with the centre of the body. and also judging by the comments, its not real necessary to have it rotate, since the body can be tipped up onto the stands with two people.
ok..

Hi Guys, Thanks for your input so far, ideas and photos. The spit pictured is a nice set up and lucky to have the luxury of such a large shed! I have been thinking of making the pivot point halfway between the bumper mounts, and using 2 round tubes (one inside the other) to allow rotation. This shall be off the ground at least half the width of the car plus extra to allow for the arc of the swing. on a base with wheels to allow for pushing in and out of the garage. The hardest part will be lifting the car to the desired height to put it on the rotisserie, however I have a 2 ton engine crane handy. The beauty of the rotisserie pictured is, it looks as though it is at standard sitting height when mounted, and swung up with relative ease. hmmm still thinking.... cheers

Technical Board / General Technical / just like... A pig on a spit
|
on: May 20, 2002, 10:42:50 PM

I am contemplating building a deviced to spin my car upside down..
I have EK bumper mounts to attach to the car. between these I shall weld and reinforce a piece of suitable RHS.
I was considering attaching this RHS then to a couple of engine stands.
Has anybody done this before?
I have on good word that a shell can easily be laid on to its side on a matress.. but I cant bring myself to do this.
the desired effect will be just like.... A pig on a spit
Any hints before I embark on yet another distraction?
