41  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Paint Colors on: July 27, 2002, 09:54:47 AM
Hi all, I am about two weeks off having to make a final decision on what color to paint my FC Special. I am not wrapped in the original India Ivory and Granite Grey. I am thinking about an India Ivory flash with a red body. I have been to a couple of local paint suppliers to see if they could give me a sample of Gypsy Red, Blaze Red or Flame Red but with no luck. They dont seem to have paint records going back to the fifties.
Can anyone help with the name of a paint supplier that can help or even with the 'recipe' of these colors so I can see them for real before making a desision. I have looked at the fantastic 'painter' on the FEFC website but would still like to see the colors in person.
Does anyone in the Vic FEFC club have any of these colors on their car? and if so would they be attending the auction day? (Although I may need to make a desision B4 then Huh
Any sugestions to any color combination would be appreciated although I have a red/black interior in VG condition that I intend to put in the car so musn`t clash with that.
I only want to make this expensive decision once so it must be the right one Shocked
Thanks

It`s at http://www.rarespares.net.au/mainind.htm
You can go to the spare parts catalouge and have a look for rust repair panels... Grin

Please let me know what the postage costs and I`ll include it aswell. Smiley
My postal address is: Brendan Crawford, 9 MacDougal Crt, Traralgon, Vic, 3844.
Thanks again.... Grin
44  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / GreyMotor push rods on: July 25, 2002, 04:49:36 AM
Can anyone help with one, or a full set of pushrods for a grey motor of the FC vintage. Huh
I have found a few sets from people I know but they all seem to be too long. The ones from my motor are about 257mm long. The longer ones are all about 5 - 6mm longer and dont seem to give me enough adjustment on the valves :-/  I`m assuming the longer ones are from a 138 Huh
Anyway, if anyone can help please reply and name your price. Thanks......
45  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Front oil seal (Crankshaft) on: July 09, 2002, 07:37:54 PM
Thanks Ken, I was hoping that was the case.
I hope my car will be on the road in the next few months. I have put in the sills I got from you a few months ago and the car is now being painted. I hope to join in a few club runs once the old girl is up and running.

46  Technical Board / General Technical / Front oil seal (Crankshaft) on: July 09, 2002, 06:19:23 AM
Hi all,
Can anyone help with info on the front main oil seal that fits into the timing gear cover and seals on the crank.(Grey motor)
The seal I pulled out has a metal outer and is about 13mm deep. The only seal I could find was a rubber coated one which is about 9mm deep. The metal one must be an original as it has HOLDEN on it and 7426199.
I got the new seal from a bearing supplies for $2.50. I guess the new thin seal will be ok, it will just sit flush with the timing gear cover instead of protruding out a few mm.
Does this sound correct to anyone? I dont want to put this seal in only to find its not right!
Thanks... Huh
47  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Greymotor towing on: September 27, 2001, 11:10:47 AM
Thanks Pabs for your suggestions.
I couldn`t find anything in my FE/FC workshop manual about ute diffs being different to a sedan. I assume you meant the ratio is better suited to towing?. The manual says 3.89. If there`s a lower ratio I`d be interested.
Thanks again...(Yes, cool is a big priority!!)

48  Technical Board / General Technical / Greymotor towing on: September 26, 2001, 10:17:40 AM
Gedday all,
I`m building an FC special from ground up with the intention of towing a 1950`s bondwood carravan. I`m wondering if anyone has any advice on modifications to the Grey to make it more suitable for pulling the 950kg van. I have restored the van, it`s ready to go. I would like to keep the car as original as possible, however modifications to increase safety would be good. Brakes, suspension, etc will all have to be considered.
I`m a member of the Vic FE/FC club but as i`m from the country I find this forum more convenient.
Regards, BrendanC.
