A guy at work brought in a copy of The Sun (Melb) from 22nd July 1969. He had it because his family kept it as a momento of the day man landed on the moon. Check out the for sale ads and the job vacancies.

22  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Window regulator rollers on: July 16, 2003, 02:29:21 AM
Does anyone know if you can still get the rollers that are riveted to the ends of the window regulator arms? They roll in the chanel at the bottom of the window glass as the windows are wound up and down.

Mine are worn through to the shaft on a couple and the others are seized.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,
Brendan.

24  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / FC Firewall rubbers on: July 05, 2003, 10:44:11 AM
Hi all, I am after the three rubber grommets for the firewall. One for wiring loom, one for choke/speedo cable and one for heater cable.
Any good secondhand ones or advice on suitable new replacements would be apreciated.

Thanks,
Brendan. Smiley
25  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: FLOOR PANS on: June 29, 2003, 12:03:26 PM
I agree with Jason, the Rarespares ones are readily available, reasonably priced, and they do the job.
I replaced three out of four on my FC sedan and had no problems. Not quite a perfect match on the floor contour but good enough to stop your feet from draging on the road. Grin

26  Galleries / Members' FEs and FCs / Brendans first project. on: June 24, 2003, 09:34:32 AM
My love of FC`s started when I was fifteen and my dad gave me an FC ute that my Mum used to drive from Mount Gambier to Traralgon when they were courting back in the sixties. (b4 my time!!) Mum was from S.A. and Dad was from Vic.

It had been sitting in a paddock for many years by the time I got my hands on it, but remarkably all it needed was piston seals in the wheel cylinders and a kit through the fuel/vaccume pump. It was very rusty by this stage. I had no intension of getting it on the road, it was to be my paddock bomb.

Over the next three years I spent every bit of spare time after school and on weekends working on the ute. It went through many stages of repair and dissrepair. At one stage it had dual wheels on the back with no front mudgaurds or bonnet, and later it had massive tyres on the back that I found on a farm on top of a silage stack holding down the plastic cover. I hand made the rear rims by welding two 15 inch VW rims together and welding in an FC center. The front rims were made by welding two standard Fc 13 inch rims together.

Another modification I made was by getting three inlet manifolds and cutting off the arms either side of the carby and bronsing metal caps over the holes. Then I mounted one carby over each inlet on the head. Tripple carbies!! It didnt idle real well, but boy did it blow some flames out the exhaust when you got it revving!!

The poor old ute copped a flogging by me and my mates in my dads paddocks on weekends. I have included some photos which barely scratch the surface of the changes this ute had over the years I had it. One shows it where I got it bogged on the edge of a dam. I had to get a tractor to pull it out.

Sadly, I turned 18 and my thoughts turned to road legal cars and girls, and the poor old ute got sold to some guy for about $100.00. That was thirteen years ago.

The only thing I have left of the ute is the lowline canopy and  heap of photos and memories.

The bonnet scoop in the last photo is actually half a childrens wheelbarrow welded into the bonnet.

Brendanc

My little man was never far away during all of this, but i`m not sure if he`s learnt anything.

I dont think this came out as clear on the screen as I had hoped.

This is the next project, although we use it now, but its just not quite the same behind a hilux!

I`ll post more pics as I get them developed. The car is now considerably more advanced than in these photos.

Chow for now,

BrendanC.

Once I got it back to my shed, out came the front end and diff for an overhaul and paint. I only paid the painter to lay on the red and white. I did the rest myself.

When I pulled the car appart, I bagged and tagged everything. This made the reassembly so much easier given the length of time between dissasembly and reassembly.

Everything got gaskets and seals, and then paint.

Once it was stripped, it was off to the painters for a complete strip back to bare metal and then paint. Other than the lower sections, (sills & floorpans,) the body was in very good condition. There was no bog or dodgy repairs.

After reading the article in the tech section I decided to have a crack at replacing the sills myself. As you can see it was fairly bad, but Kens article was written well enough for me to have a go. I had never tried anything like this before.

I had to replace three floor pans:

You could see through the floor. It was a bit of a Fred Flintstone mobile.

The interior is in pretty good nic,

But the engine bay and motor were a bit neglected.

It wasnt in real good nic. It needed new sills (thanks Ken), and 3 floor pan sections. The doglegs needed to be re-crafted.

Gedday all, I thought it about time to have some input to this forum, I have certainly had my fair share of output from it. This is a pic of my Fc the day I got it home which is about 3.5 years ago. I`m hoping this works, I`m not very computer literate. If all goes well I`ll post more pics of the progression of the car over the last few years. Its still not on the road, but is probably about 80% complete. I have a wife who is an accountant, and each month after pay day I have to submit my request for funds for the project. It was an $1100.00 purchase in Feb 2000, and I have all the reciepts so far for what I`ve put into it. I havent added them all up but I know I`m well over ten grand. But for those of you that have done a restoration, you would know that thats not hard. Anyway, if this works, there will be more to come. Chow, BrendanC
35  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Bits & Pieces Wanted on: February 21, 2003, 09:53:34 PM
Can anyone help with the following bits & pieces? (all for an FC)
1. Front handbrake cable.
2. Two brake shoe hold down pins.
3. Rear handbrake cable clamp (it  holds the hand brake cable outer against the subframe. I`m after one for the RHS)
4. Bonnet release cable end clamp.( the little screw bit right at the end)
5. Lucas headlight, just the lens/reflector. Must be in good roadworthy cond.
6. Left & Right door handle mountings. These are the T brackets that are spring loaded. They are refered to in the FE/FC workshop manual on page 32, fig 1-25, no5. I think they may be called Door Lock Remote Controls.

Thanks, BrendanC

Well said Ken, as an owner of an originally Grey & White car, I agonized for months over wether or not to return the car to original colors.
I am building the car as a stocker, but couldn`t bring myself to spend money on a re-spray that was always going to look plain.
(sorry to the lovers of Granite Grey).
In the end I kept the India Ivory but used a variation of the maroon, and I must say that every time I walk into the shed and see the car it brings a smile to my face and a fuzzy feeling in my tummy. Grin (Something Granit Grey couldn`t do for me).

Gedday Ken,

My panel beater is coming along quickly indeed, would it be too much trouble to get a copy of the photos or maybe if you can post them to me I`ll copy them and post back. I think I`ll have to make a decision on color before the next club meeting. If this isn`t possible let me know and I`ll try to sorce some pictures elsewhere.

Thanks...
