21  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: heavy steering on: October 05, 2010, 08:27:57 PM
Yes I did pass feedback to rares and had ZERO replies on all 4 occasions I was dumb enough to purchase the stuff I even rang them and they said they would call back and still nothing so not only are thier gear well well well below par they have poor customer service as well to add the cherry to the crap cake they give. It is completely my own fault for not listening to others warning me against buying their gear so my apologies to rares and I accept all responsibility.
22  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: heavy steering on: October 05, 2010, 07:55:17 PM
Theres your mistake, Using rare spares gear. I bought a heap of rares gear nad had to modify every single item to fit my cars. Floor pans only barely resemble the originals and had to be bashed into place to fit, Rear spring rubber kits had to be trimmed to fit the springs due to being too wide and too big so my honest opinion after my experiences with their gear is to shop elsewhere it may cost more but at least it works.
23  Technical Board / General Technical / Coil question on: October 04, 2010, 10:06:44 PM
Hi all I pulled the engine out of an FC ute I bought as a parts car and found the engine still had a GMH coil fitted to it. It is a aluminium body with black top and has gold stickers with black writing in them. The top sticker when mounted which is the black part facing down says GMH part no. then a large written LUCAS 12V COIL then 7412976.  The bottom smaller sticker says "made especially for General Motors Holden LTD" then the next line says "joseph lucas australia PTY LTD".Also stamped into the bottom is uh-12 then next line has a symbol resembling a y in a circle followed by 87404A then 5-58
Is this an original coil for FE/FC or for another model is it worth anything or just rubbish?
Very interesting find I must say.
Jason

29  For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / Re: HR DRUM BRAKE FRONT END................PERTH on: September 30, 2010, 09:48:03 PM
The reason I posted the other one was to show you what is actually useful on a drum front but as it would seem you are getting a little upset by posting other peoples overpriced bare front ends then by all means post away. I paid $150.00 for my HR drum front end complete with all steering components including the HR steering arm to fit onto my EH steering box why this news upsets you is something I am a little unsure of and like I said I am sorry if it offends you but this has never been my intent. You stated in your original ad that you didn't know what they are worth and posted it at $500.00 which is well above top dollar for a drum front and two people chose to be helpful and say that possibly this figure is too high. The bare front ends you posted have been re posted on ebay many many times as no one will buy them as they are simply way overpriced. If you want $500 for the front then by all means sell it for that and truly I hope it does as it will vastly increase the price of my disc brake front end as well as $500 is all that it would ever go for. Anyway I do not wish to get in to any more tiffs with you in this site as I hold it in very high regards.
Cheers Jason

30  For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / Re: HR DRUM BRAKE FRONT END................PERTH on: September 30, 2010, 07:03:56 PM
Vintageholden I do hope I have not offended you mate as it was by no means my intention. You said you were not sure what they are worth so I told you what they go for. The value is only in the disc brakes and they will set you back complete with stubs, rotors and calipers etc usually over $350 for good ones that only need caliper kits. This is where they hit the $500 mark and hence the drum brake fronts only worth $150 or so because the buyer then needs to buy the disc set up or keep the drum stubs and pay $120 for a special bracket to adapt commodore disc brakes onto them and then they still need to buy the calipers and rotors. Like I said I am not trying to piss you off or offend you and if I did I am sorry but just letting you know what they are worth.

37  For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / Body n Bits on: August 30, 2010, 03:56:27 PM
Hey all up for grabs is an FE sedan an FC ute and other bits. The sedan has had all rust repairs finished in the shell except the spare wheel well and needs a good subframe but the FC has a reasonable subframe with rust under the sway bar area. It also needs a wiring loom but also can be taken from the ute. there are 10 or so doors in various states of repair but 2 fronts and one rear are very good and the other rear is an easy repair. The ute still has the grey etc and a speco floor shift in it but the ute is unfortunately beyond repair with extensive rust but has good bits on it like the dash and other bits as well. The sedan has no seats so if using the ute seat you will need to find a rear. There is also a good bootlid and bonnet, windscreen and passenger front guard on the sedan and only needs bonnet catch area etc and steering box and front end. Also in the sale is a HR front end with torana stub axles but no brakes and also needs another lower control arm as the one on it has had the pivot hole in the control arm rounded out and will also be supplied with the rare spares mounting rubber kit for it to the FE still in the box. The car will also come with an EH 3.55 diff so you only need to buy new wheel cylinders to match the disc brakes and also comes with new shackle rubber kit and spring pad kit but needs the two big front bolts with the screwdriver head on them. Also has a good fuel tank in the sedan. There is also a standard bore 149 with the sale and comes with a brand new set of .060 MAHLE pistons with hastings rings to reco the old donk and most engineers will let it go without the need of heaps of modifications in queensland. There is no grill or bumpers or headlights etc for the sedan so still need to be found. There has also been a chassis strengthening bar added on both sides to stiffen her up and only needs final welding. There is also the correct tailshaft to fit aussie 4 speeds etc into FE. There are other bits that I am sure I have missed but they will be thrown in as well you will also need to bring wheels as I only have a couple of spares to roll them up onto a trailer and the ute is about 5 minutes from here. I am chasing around $2000.00 for the lot which is pretty cheap considering the HR front end, EH diff, New rubbers and new pistons along with the new repair panels that are in it. I am doing up an EH wagon so EH guards, bonnet, subframe etc can be considered in a part trade if you like or a good wagon etc.
I am in Kingsthorpe which is just outside toowoomba QLD. 04313766069 or 07 4699 3890 and ask for jason.

39  For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / 149 red on: August 25, 2010, 02:04:29 PM
Hi all I have up for grabs a 149 out of an EH with "H" prefix with a brand new set of .060 mahle (ACL) pistons and rings still in box to build her to new again.Has an LC/LJ torana sump and pickup which is the same as EH without the stepdown in the middle so will bolt in the same. Pistons are an obsolete item for these little reds and took me 6 weeks to find them and they cost me $320.00 on their own. I am chasing $400 for the whole lot or will swap for eh parts like a pair of good front guards or really good bonnet or grill section etc.

40  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: sanding ready for painting on: August 18, 2010, 09:20:42 PM
G'day mate an orbital from bunnings will work just fine and depending on your budget will depend on the quality ie makita or gmc etc. Other good fast ways to remove paint are rapid strip discs on a grinder which can be bought there too and they are much faster than an orbital an will be less likely to give you the shits for taking a long time. Also paint stripper is a good way as well and finish off with a rapid strip disc after scraping off the paint and washing stripper residue of but this is a fairly messy way to do it. I have a sander\polisher and use large rapid strip discs but the machines are a bit pricey. So I guess for speedy removal and less tiring work an angle grinder with rapid strip discs will save you time. Hope this helps mate.
