I came across a bare FB/EK ute shell today. Nice and rusty. No front sheetmetal, subframe, doors, tailgate or spare tyre tailgate, engine, box, tailshaft, glass, nothing. Rear quarters and roof looked ok.
It does have a rear end in it and a steering column.
I think he wants $200.
Interested?

yes... Grin where is it ??
5  For Sale and Wanted / Cars For Sale / Re: FE complet ute shell for sale on: March 23, 2010, 03:37:02 PM
Graham, VERY few people are willing to buy projects - It's hard enough to get it back together when you have pulled it apart yourself!
Maybe your car is worth $6000 but you will most likely have to be patient and spend some money on advertising in order to find the buyer.
I would consider that your price is top dollar for what it is - a completely stripped shell in good order.
Still needs masses of work to finish and plenty of dollars to be spent.

Hope this helps

Ken

my other hobbie is collecting old bottles and the way I see it, is somethings only worth what your prepard to pay for it, i.e I bought a "BROKEN" moonevally cordial bottle for $250 dollars and when it arrived the GLW was not real impressed that I paid so much for a broken bottle, but I wanted it and gladdly paid the dollars for it, otherwise its just a broken old bottle that could have ended up in the bin.
6  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Rust repair panels and rear spring hanger repair on: March 19, 2010, 02:31:30 PM
howdy fella.

Floor pans and inner adn outer sill panels ae pretty good nowadays, and if at all, just a little trim here or there.

The rear spring hanger bit will have to be fabricated, but what I do...  Roll Eyes is cut the section right out, clean it up, then make the section out of CARDBOARD, then you fold and cut it to shape, then take it to a fabricator and see what they can do. OR listen to the experts here who have done this repair before.  Roll Eyes oh and supply heaps of pics !!!!!!!

12  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: FC Project - How bad does rust have to be? on: February 28, 2010, 06:30:57 PM
the main point here is your ability to be able to it yourself (hopefully) then tell this bloke you give him half what he asking, mind you show him the cash and be prepared to walk away. The other half get the undercarriage sand blasted, not the top half.  Roll Eyes then if its not going to work out, recpoup your losses buy sectioning the good bits for other guys rust repairs, cant gaunetee you'll get it all back, you might though. I would hazzard a guess that quite a few blokes here have thrown good money away on projects that never got past stripping a car.

GOOD LUCK

Hey Guys,

A quick question... how bad does rust have to be for a project to be unviable? The Images are of the cross member. There are some other rust areas, but this one is my main concern.

Everything is fixable, but when do you not bother? And if I went ahead, how much do you think it would cost?

Feedback is appreciated guys...

PS: I haven't bought the car as yet

Cheers,

Neil
