Of all of the FE/FC front bench seats that I have recovered the backrests have always had side openings with sleeves that are held together with an internal zig-zag wire and hog rings, this is then covered with the plastic trims.

I currently have an FE Standard seat in my workshop that has no side openings and no side plastic, is this factory standard or am I looking at a very old custom seat re-trim?

I found this on eBay ($95) plus postage. Says it is FE; however, suspect that it is FC.

Also, don't waste your money. I have one you can borrow, just PM me your postal address.

That's FC and a pretty nasty example if you ask me, FE arm rests doubled as door pulls and are the same as 55-57 Chevs.

I am after at least one, more if possible, original front seat coil springs.

I have a couple of seats to rebuild and whilst I can get after-market coil springs there is a lot of faffing around to get them to fit and they never seem quite right.

Anyone know where to get the headlining retaining strips that are spot welded inside the roof?

I've always known them as Alligator Strips, I don't think you can get them new. You'll probably need to scavenge some from a wreck.

I thought I read a post last week of someone asking about original swirl pattern hood lining but cant find it again (or I am loosing my mind...). I have just trawled through the Stinky SMS Auto fabrics saga from 2011 and feel a little concerned that this may be the only option for acquiring original swirl pattern head lining vinyl? Please tell me it isn't true and what have other people done with a restoration that is trying to go as close to factory as possible. Al

FYI, I now have stock of the off white swirl.
I can sell you meterage or if you want to wait I can sell ready to fit roof linings and sun visor covers.

Delivery is not the issue, once sent it only takes UPS a few days to get it here, it's the time taken between taking your order (and full payment) and actually sending it.

There's a pretty good chance you'll be able to get a local match at either Daleys or Novatex in Melbourne, I'd try them before SMS - trust me I've been dealing with SMS for years and spent thousands of dollars and they don't get any quicker.

I am after 2 of the skid strips as pictured, my station sedan only has 3 fitted when it looks like there should be 5.

Sorry Glenn they’ve gone already but I do have 3 unchromed headlight surrounds if your interested (2 are painted red , I had them on my sedan, and one is the original pale green, one of the red ones has a small amount of damage, just a couple of deep scratches from memory) all 3 for same price as the blinker surrounds plus postage mate.

I don't know about anyone else bringing in or reproducing the vinyl, I was expecting an order for a roll of the off-white to be shipped on the 31st October but true to SMS form no notifications and they have not replied to my query. I mean it only represents $7000ish that has not been in my bank account for the last 6 months or so

It looks like a really good fit.

I tend to agree with Ken, but remember it is also a seller's market so if you really want an FE or FC be prepared to compromise and jump on any good thing when it presents itself, they ain't getting any cheaper!
Not to boast but I have stock and modified cars, driven both locally and interstate/long distance for Nationals or Club Runs and I wouldn't rate one over the other aside from the modified car being more fun on private property.
