Hi all, I saw a nationals promotion in the TWEED SUN on page 4 from wednesday april 9th. Paragraph 2 of the article, quote, "The popular event orginised by the queensland fefc holden car club is expected to drawclub members from across far north queensland." unquote
I thaught that I was up here for the nationals with members from all over australia. After 3 months of preperation, 3 weeks off work I hope there is not two events on over the easter weekend

26  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Collapsible Steering with Standard/HR Box on: March 25, 2003, 11:10:53 AM
Hi Garry, the column is shorter I think about 100mm which is not a bad thing. Mine goes to a rack and pinion so I dont know how far the column would need to protude through the firewall, mine was kept to a minium because of clearance problems with extractors [V8]. I did attempt to make it column auto, I used the torana selector tube, cut it and welded in the section from the fc selector tube [the bit the gear shift mates with] and sat the torana PNRD21 gismo on top and a lot of other mods but in the end after 6 months I had had enough, this would have been much easier with manual, one problem is the wires from the indicators and horn there is not much clearance for them as the torana selector tube is bigger in diameter than the fc unit also I remember shortening the selector tube, it also is collaspable. Ended up with a floor shift and bucket seats. Give it a go, may be use the flat wire looms out of a different model.

hi chuck
for what its worth I welded a fc outer upper section onto a LC torana outer lower section, its welded at the area hidden buy the U bracket that holds the column to the dash. The LC has the same spline as the FC wheel. I used the LC steering shaft it needed some turning to allow the upper bearing of the FC honey pot ect to travel down the shaft further and dont forget to turn in a groove for the circlip wich stops the bearing popping out of its housing. So there you go, an original wheel on a collapsable column. I think the HT spline is compatable to the FC steering wheel. The spline changed at LJ and HQ, your engineer mey ask what is the column out of, you need to give him an answer that he will aprove of. Alternativly involve him the project after all he is the one who gets you on the road.

hi jon
I think your extractors are to suit a later model with a traumatic trans, the auto is wider than the manual box, also the hot air pick up point is visable in your photo so they are to suit something with anti polution crap, depending on how handy you are buy some exhaust tube and a slab then cut the pipes to achieve the clearance and re weld.

29  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Dropped Spindles on: March 08, 2003, 11:22:11 AM
hi josh,
I bought a set at xmass and put them on my FE, using 14 inch ht rims, modified hq discs, 195-70 tyers, crs front mountet rack with crs modified hr steering arms, 1st problem was the outer bearing would not push up to the outer race in the disc, it turned out to be a burr from the keyway machining.  Huh
2nd problem was the tyer hiting on the tyre rod end, I put a 4mm spacer between rim and disc rotor - not enough to clear so i packed behind  the steering arms by 6mm and still not enough clearance for the tyre rod end, mind you that made 10 mm so from my experience your tyers would need a clearance of greater than 10mm before you start.
So I thaught it's time to put my mags on the car because they have a different offset than the ht rims, I still needed the 6mm spacer behind the tyre rod ends so off to the wheel alighners but i could not even reverse the car out of my drive way because the tyers were rubbing on the guards, I could go on but to cut this short I sold the f-----g things.
