Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Noisy Valve springs
|

I have checked the oil supply and all seem to be getting plenty of oil as oil comes out of both the tops of the rockers and the hole in the connector between the two halves of the rocker gear. The rocker gear wasn't looked at when the head was done however it was fine prior. The noise doesn't seem any worse than initially and the head was only overhauled so I could run on straight unleaded. Thanks so far guys Frank

Hello Pedro,
I used wire wheels and stripper pads on mine-avoided sandblasting as This can make straight panels bent. Only blasted nooks and crannies in the front subframe that were unaccessible by any other means. Hope this helps Frank

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: rubber kits
|

As mentioned most of the kits have similar rubber profiles for the job intended but are very disimilar to the originals especially in the case of the door rubbers as they are only moulded on the bottom sections. I used a rares kit in my project and found the best way to get them to fit was to stretch the rubber and glue it in as I went this allowed me to vary the thickness where required as initial attempts made it impossible to shut the doors where the section remained too thick. Alternatively you could hold out for NOS rubbers.
Hope this helps Frank

looks as though you have removed the spring already, if this is the case and only the head remains you can pierce through the head with an oxy torch and cut out the centre of the head of the bolt leaving a few mm around the outer edge so as you don't damage the mount. This will relieve the pressure on the bolt head and whats left should knock out easily. I sourced new dolts from rares for mine.
Hope this helps Frank

Hello Nige and Jody,
The preparation of your chrome parts is better left to the guys doing the job as any pitting left from blasting will have to be polished out before chroming, which I have been told by metal polishers is more difficult than preparing an untouched item. These guys remove rust by running these comonents through chemical baths and polishing, however if you are going to paint these components as in some custom cars rather than rechrome a blasted surface is a good place to start.
Hope this helps, Frank

The rings can rotate while operating, but the gaps should be offset atleast 30degrees from each other when assembled to help keep them from lining up. I assemble the rings a third apart evenly around the piston and have never had any problems with them. Frank

Restorers Paradise on the goldcoast list reproduction cards on ebay from time to time, contacting them through ebay wouldn't be hard as they list many other items as well.
Cheers Frank
