Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Ignition Coil Orientation
|
on: May 28, 2009, 12:15:59 PM

If you still have the original bracket all you need do is cut the legs off the one you got with the new coil and use the round part as a spacer between the new coil and the old bracket as the GT40 is a little smaller diameter than the original
Cheers Frank

The complete unit including lighter should go in from under the dash if memory serves correctly this is why the base appears bigger, the screws go through the dash panel and secure into the ashtray housing, the top lid should have a little clearance all round so it can open and shut. PM your email address and I will send you a pic if necessary.
Hope this helps Frank

Your best option would be to speak to a driveshaft specialist and see what they recommend Sydney driveshafts do a good job though I can't seem to find their no. Hope this helps Frank

This may be a timing problem, ensure your vaccum lines are tight and that your timing is correct and as Ken mentioned you have the correct leads and they are in good order. Also check that your muffler isn't collapsed internally as this will restrict your motors ability to breathe-no use putting alot in one end if it can't get out the other.
Hope this helps Frank

Sorry to hear about your motor John, obviously whoever biult it doesn't take any pride what so ever in their work. Seems like you've got the right person for the job working on it now though,
Hope it all works out Frank

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Radiator recovery tank??
|
on: February 23, 2009, 02:14:36 AM

The original system on a grey runs a 7psi cap for an EJ so experimenting with the cap may help. A recovery system must also be fully sealed to work efficiently so recheck that everthing is tight and sealed and also be sure your pick up into your overflow bottle is on tight and reaches close to the bottom of your tank.
Hope this helps Frank

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: different grey motor gearboxes

The EJ had a different box to the FC so your shifter will not be a straight fit up. The tailshaft lengths do vary from model to model though I have no dimensions for the gearboxes. Gear ratios however appear the same. Your best bet would be to get the right shifter for the job and on sell the one you have.
Hope this helps Frank

I used stripper pads on my 7" sander and wire wheels on my 4 1/2" angle grinder and found they worked a treat and cheap too compared to chemical strippers
Hope this helps Frank

You could get in touch with an enine rebiulder such as Duncan and Foster they have been around for a long time and would probably have struck this before. Where are you located? as there is probably someone close that would have a set of manifolds you could compare.
Hope this helps Frank
