Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: ECOTEC WITH TORANA FRONT END INFO NEEDED
|
on: February 15, 2011, 11:03:48 PM
|
Me Too. Late last year I relocated interstate and am now ready to start progessing on my car again. I have a hr front end in it at the moment, but am seriously considering obtaining a torana LX - LH front end. Apparently this makes the Holden V6 sump clearance a non if not limited problem. I am told it (a torana front sub frame)will not bolt up like the hr one did (easily) and will need some modification to the front cross member to make it fit. On the ej-eh web site I found a couple of links where the mod had been done but unsure if the EH Subframe is much different to the FE-FC. http://forum.ejehclubqld.com/ehclub/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7578&whichpage=1http://www.ejehclubqld.com/ehclub/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8538and also on fastlane found a query where a EK owner was asking the same question and was told major mods needed to be done. http://www.fastlane.com.au/forums/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=16723and this may be useful also for ideas on strengthening for engineering requirements. I am more than aware of the V6 conversions option but like most on here I am approx $5000 sheckles short on their asking price. Even if I had a secret stash I'm sure the "minister of finance" would have other ideas and already spent in on boring things like bills and life's necessities. As far as this site goes the best link I've found and book marked is http://fefcholden.org.au/forum/index.php/topic,13343.0.htmlbut it shows NO pics of subframe installment and or engine mounts. Just lists as fitted LH torana front end. As I'm yet to purchase my front end is LX, LH and UC the only torana options and is a 6 or V8 optioned front end best to use. Sorry to Moon for semi hi-jacking his thread. Just thought I would share what I've found with him. If you could respond to ....... http://fefcholden.org.au/forum/index.php/topic,15305.new.html instead of stealing this thread it would be appreciated. Thanks Jase (hrpremier)

Technical Board / General Technical / HR Holden Battery Replacement
|
on: January 05, 2011, 09:59:06 PM
|
I've recently moved back home from interstate after 4 years abroad, and during that time although driven from time to time the battery in my old girl has given up the ghost and now won't hold charge. I thought I would take this opportunity to replace it with an authentic when new in appearance battery, so with that I'm looking for any information on companies who can supply batteries which look like those used in the period of when my HR was new. Been through some of my photos and have found a couple which I believe are close to the original looking type used. From a promotional picture including the X2 engine bay I have on record the vehicle in the advert seems to be show a battery similar to that of the green capped battery shown below. OR Any feed back would be greatly appreciated Thanks in advance Jase

Im all the way up in remote Cairns, and I got my copy from the first newsagent i tried last Thursday (061010) and I would at a guess say there were 7 - 8 copies on the shelf.
On saying that we normally see magazines (Just Holdens and AMC) arrive here 3 - 5 days after the release on the websites

Here are the pictures as per pedros reply earlier. Seems lots of clearance for things to be hidden under the guard like the charcoal canister (see pedros earlier threads).
As suggested the only clearance problem is the front of the tyre in the front of the front guard wheel arch. (Note to self - To Many Fronts in that last sentence) Sitting in the shed as it is, it is only a problem at full lock. (Note to self - it is followed by it is, is just bad grammer) (Note to self - Done it again with is,is)
Hopefully with low profile tyres this will rectify this problem without any real further hassles. Not going to be to big a deal as I dont see myself using anything larger than 15" rims at this point.
I also stated earlier that I thought the exposed tyre on each side was quite minimal outside the original FC guards. Well I was half right. On the Drivers side the tyre sits out a mere 8mm....................
............... but on the passenger side a total of 24 mm is expose maening 32mm total. For those taking off their socks to work it out thats an average of 16mm per side if I move the diff back to the right by 8mm.
As I mentioned earlier the Diff is only sitting there with the lower control arm brackets as a temperary solution so again something else to tackle down the track.

Pedro, Yes they are the standard 15in rims and tyres off the V6 Executive. Shit Loads of room at overall, except minimal at the front of the wheel arch. Will post a better picture tonight. On saying that they are the commodore rims on the HQ Rotors " Dont want to start this argument again) but they will be changed down the track. Need a set of those flash new waterjet cut adaptors you just aquired. Plan on getting around this problem of lack of space on the front by low profile tyres Jase

Wow. Good to see it back in your possession.
I for one would be keen to see as many pics as possible. Looking for v6 commodore engine mount pics, steering rack pics. I dont mine the green, although could do with a complimatry colour to make it a two tone.

Yeah Ive met Jason (fevanv6) a couple of times and spoke to him on the matter when he was here in Cairns, and would have paid him to do mine when he had access to the equipment, but now he is in Darwin its not an option. I have got hold of his tool maker up her to redo the splines as well but not much point unless the diff tubes get done at the same time. I used to travel throughout Victoria with a mate racing gokarts and Im sure his dad has all the tools required to do this job and will hit him up when I return to SA.
Yeah. The brackets for the lower control arms are just there for the purpose of transit at this stage. They are only tack welded on so easy to remove when I get re-settled, but will use them as a template for the final design later on. Not getting to excited until I find an engineer at my new residence so that way I can meet all his requirements as apposed to someone here who may have differnt ideas to someone else.
Yeah the rear wheels fit on the diff with minimal exposure each side, (have not measured but looking at it it would be 5 -10mm each side) but everyone else seems to find a reason to cut the diff so I dont know what to do.

Ease up there sunshine ..................................
Ive manufactured and installed the solid make shift shockers, installed the tail lights, headlights, front bar, front indicators, rear calipers and sway bar. All things which can be bolted onto the car which is less to shift home singulary (if thats even a word - if not I've just invented it and urge all to start using it in every day conversation)
I admit most ofthose things you cant see or the latest picture is not downloaded of the camera yet but I have been fiddling with it still.
Will call you regarding hr.
JaseFor all the latest pics visit my oldholden shed in the link below as there are more pics in there. I hate to lose![/size]
