181  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Ignition Barrell Removal on: January 03, 2009, 08:23:31 PM
Howdy all.  I think I am in trouble.  Ive spent three hours today looking for my key to my fc I am "playing" with.  Last recolection with the key was last weekend where I used it to get into the boot.

I went to take the ignition switch out today so I could remove all the dash components and after sticking wire (A PAPERCLIP) into the hole to release the pin I walked away with no success.  I am thinking I I may need the key in the ignition to remove this along with the wire in the release hole also.

If anyone has experience with this or knows if the key is required could they please advise.

Thanks in advance

182  Technical Board / General Technical / Strip down naked ......................... on: October 08, 2008, 01:59:38 PM
Hi all

Started to pull the guards off my FC and was wondering what grade paper in used as a starting point to rub back to bare metal.  I started with a 600 sanding disc on a small angle grinder.  Not sure if this is to coarse, seems ok but theres always a little bit of doubt.  Also is it then recommended to go over it again with 1200 grade or such.  Now footy season is over and done with for a few months (AFL, not that silly league game and don't even get me started on soccer) hopefully I can start putting more time in the shed working on the car.

Old Blu.

I am located in Cairns FNQ so no doubt to far away from much assistance in person.  Not to many members on the forum this way I bet.  Any photos or pointers would be appreciated.

Kindest Regards

184  Technical Board / Modification Help / V6 Conversoion on: August 11, 2008, 09:19:57 PM
I was hoping someone out there who has already completed a V6 conversion into a FC could give me a list of primary parts useful to complete the project.  I have my complete donor car and have stripped the wiring loom, steering colum interior at this stage but not sure what exactly I need to make the conversion easier. I plan to use as much running gear from my vs donor car as possible ie brakes etc so with that in mind any help is greatly appreciated.  I know its a bit of an open ending question but not sure what I am getting myself into.  I have an engineer to do the conversion but he's out of the country on holidays at the moment so he's unatainable.

Thanks in advance

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this car is going to become a v6 conversion and unsure of paint scheme just yet.  I have posted a question about mid May regarding the colour because I was suspisious it was not original as it had a black roof and the id plate only stated one solour and the reply i got was "the black was added later to liven it up a bit, the fact the the black is now wearing through shows that it was just a flash over, maybe by a car yard to make a sale."  Actually as I just went back and found the post to quote it was ken who replied to me.  Anyways unsure of how to post a picture but as it has a black roof at the moment I dont believe it will do Ken any good.  Sorry mate.

Speak soon

Cheers Dean.

That inner guard in the engine bay is where I got the S13093 number from but A bit more research indicates the S could actually be an 8 meaning 58 build. I cant see an S on the end of the number sequence confirming a Sydney build but thats to say its not there as there are scratches in the engine bay also making it hard to define characters.  Any oyher assistance would be appreciated.

Also is there somewhere else on the car I can llok for any sign of id/chassis number.  On my HR Prem on the steering box it has stamped (24L7) meaning it was stamped 24th day of the 12th month (L being the 12 letter of the alphabet) 7 meaning 1967.  Had a look on the FC but to much grease and grime build up to see toninght in poor lighting.

Cheers

Howdy Forum

Just picked up my new project yesterday.  A FC Special Sedan which has been sitting in a dry shed since its rego ran out in May 1980.  Trying to date it and found some numbers in the engine bay on the drivers side.  Looks like S13093 but hard to tell. Does this sound like a good number.  Other details include FC-225-6701-s = FC Special Sedan Build number 6701 from sydney.
197-633 = Ext trim code (197) unknown, int trim code (633) Danube Green & Black
253-2047 = Paint Colour is Olinda Green
L483937 = Engine number from approx July 1958

Thanks in advance

Thanks Ken.  Were there many Specials that were the one colour.  I thought it was only (Business) standard sedan that were the one colour.  Am I correct that the 225 refers to a special or has it had badges and strips put on it to dress it up?Also how can i tell the year of the vehicle.  Is it simply by the build number and if so what were the changeover points.  Cheers All

Hi All.  I know that a lot of people have a request such as the one i am making but I lloked at a FC Sedan yesterday nad was hoping someone could give me a clue as to if the paint was original and if not the what should it be.  The plate reads: BODY ID: FC225-8701-S, TRIM: 197-653, PAINT: 253-2047.
I believe the "2047" refers to the green located as the main body colour being OLINDA GREEN but could not find a reference to the "253". The car is black over green and the black is fading and can see the same colour green under neath.  Was this normal in the painting process to paint over the main colour with another.  The plate also has what appears to be stamped 10P in the lower right hand corner? Any reference? I presume the FC225 is FC BODY SPECIAL SEDAN - 8701 is build number from factory in SYDNEY "S".  If this is incorrect also please advise. It was last registered expiring in May 1980 so rough from lying around but a good solid body and appears to be a dry chassis.

Thanks in advance
