nicko, in reply to your question.   I did not do this part of rust repair,so ain't sure exactly how it was done.  I thought the same question myself.   I'm getting a few parts painted at the moment that should be ready to be picked up soon.  I'll find out from them and post up an answer as soon as I know.(I'm curious also)

So that's how you do it.  I'm glad someone has shared that info.  The next photo's I put up shouldn't have the extra white under photo.   I only just managed to get the photos up last time so I was happy with a bit of white underneath!

The motor. It's a 97 buick 3.8 L supercharged v6.  Meant to have around 20 000 km on the clock.   What a night mare this motor has been. I was looking for a wrecked commodore for ages with a s/c v6.  This is the only motor i could find with small enough kms.  To make this u.s. motor run like an Aust. one has required changing so many parts changing a good priced motor into expensive.  I've learnt my lesson.   Don't buy an Import buick moter. ok   to add to this the motor was also damaged in freight.  around $600 damage. not covered.

Diff fitted up to the van.  Up a little high I know!  Hoping to get the wheel arch top line covering the top of the tyre and over the rim a bit.

After a quick recent polish.  The paints pretty hard now so it should come up pretty shiny when it comes time for a good buff.

The van in the spray booth getting laid.(with paint that is). Note the windows/rubber still in the doors.  Don't know what they were thinking, but I took them out later and made them paint in there also.

The larger transmission tunnel fitted up. The hole was in the right place for the 186/celica set-up but after changing motor options to the s/c v6 and turbo 700 the hole will be shifted

New step up area and floorpan permanately in place coated in layers of sound deadener/underbody paint.
Notice the ribs in the replaced rear floorpan aren't as deep as the originals. (Rare spares floorpan)

Floorpan after plenty of time was spent cutting the old one out to the right shape/depth. Surface also de-oxed.

One area that I wasn't happy with after getting it home. I cut out the step up area panel,(that is behind the seat) and passengers side rear floorpan.  I had never done any work such as this so it was a great learning experience.

The floor wasn't in the best shape. Alot of new pieces were needed to make it sound.  All rust work/fabrication was done by the guy I bought it off who worked at a panel beaters. He did it in spare time/afterhours etc. to keep it on the cheaper side.

Hi all,
I've been wanting to post photo's of the van for a while
and have finally figured out how. Any way I'll post some of the more major photo's on this site but if you want to see more check out http://photo.starblvd.net/fcvan.
This was shortly after getting the shell back from the paint shop.

56  Technical Board / Restoration Help / door assembly info on: February 28, 2003, 02:56:43 PM
Hi all.  I'm just about to assemble my two doors(front) after getting everyhing detailed, and new parts etc.
There is one question I have to ask as I am not sure what to do/use.      Inside each door is a connecting rod, which in the manual is referred to as the "door lock remote control connecting rod".  There is a "silencer"/sleeve which fits over this which is made out of a sock type material.  My "socks" were fairly perished.
My question is - what can I use to cover these rods, either out of similar material or different and where do I get it.

Thanks again

nice one Josh, it's good to see other young guys have good taste too and you didn't buy a commodore for your first car.     Have fun

Hi Brad.  If you need any parts/reco work done on brakes I would suggest going through Perth Brake Parts.  They're in the Welshpool area and are very helpful.

2brite.  I went and had a look but got there too late, at around 6.30 pm saturday.  The last supercruise had started at 6pm.  So there wasn't alot more going on after that.  The 55 chev was awesome.  Even after seeing it in countless mags, in person it's even more amazing.  In my opinion other than that, there wasn't many other standout cars.  There didn't seem to be much new stuff also.(the marquee/tent area was quite empty) Just the same cars from past events.  My uncle went Sunday for a few hours and from what he said, he loved it, so I think it was a good event I just didn't go at the right time.
Craig was down there in his FC ute.   What did you think of the event.
