FCCOOL
Try those bits with a magnet - if they dont stick strongly, they are some grade of stainless

642  General / General Board / Re: custom vs modified on: August 24, 2007, 09:28:39 AM
Alex, its the "personal opinions" you mentioned that I am really seeking - I'm certainly not pushing for a "custom" section at state/nat titles (but i can understand why others might want this, and would possibly be inclined to support such a move - sorry Brett!)
I've given my FC the look that i personally wanted; and I really dont give a rodents rectum what others think about its STYLE, but I do appreciate constructive criticism from others on its QUALITY, and what improvements could be made without compromising that style... Like TAYZ, I'm trying for the early 60's "hottie" look, but more aussie than yank, and with a touch of "gentlemans express" thrown into the mix...
This thread arose out of a question put to me by a mate - "is your car "modified" or a "custom" - to which i could only answer "shit, I dont really know!"
Thanks for all the very interesting replies - I still cant decide whether mines modified or custom or a bit of both!! not that it matters much; it is what it is...
What I do now know is that I want to catch up with you blokes at the nats and discuss this further, (over a cool drink or three, of course...)
Cheers n thanks
jack
ps Ed, just read your reply; I think I may have a "modified custom" too...
643  General / General Board / Re: custom vs modified on: August 23, 2007, 07:12:54 PM
Gday All
Thanks for the replies - some interesting info there. I probably worded the question badly - I wasnt asking in relation to state/national titles judging, merely as what is generally accepted as "modified" as distinct from "custom" by the sort of people that use this forum.
However, the idea of a seperate section for "custom" at fefc state/nat titles is very interesting, but I sure as hell wouldnt want to be involved in setting the elegibility/ judging criteria!!!
Thanks n Cheers
Jack
644  General / General Board / custom vs modified on: August 23, 2007, 12:30:23 PM
Gday All,
There is a relatively sharp line in defining "original" as distinct from "modified" when it comes to state / national titles, but can anyone help in defining "custom" as distinct from "modified"??
At the recent Vic state titles, there was a sponsors award for "best custom".  I thought the car that won this award was very interesting (and very cool). The word "custom" often appears on this forum (in users names too) as well as in various magazines, events, etc. Is there a line seperating custom from modified?? If there is, I suspect that it may be a very blurry line...
Anyone care to comment? (Tayz, FCcool, Fehotrod, customfc, etc - over to you!)
Cheers

Alex,
Sorry, on further investigation, its not Cradock, its TEROWIE SA, about 60 k's north of Burra.

Alex,
the 2 photos that are obviously in the"desert" were at Farina station SA. That car is a few hundred yards west of the main (dirt) road to Maree. The others (behind fence) were at (I think..) Cradock SA.(pretty much a ghost town today). They are in a yard behind the long-since-closed "Modern Motors" garage. There were maybe 50 or 60 cars in the yard, seemed to be mid-1940s onwards, probably about 6 or 8 FE/FCs. It appears someone still lives behind the garage - there were some signs of life including a few (still apparently alive) early Commonbores behind the garage, but the old stuff pictured way down the back appeared undisturbed for quite some time. Didnt jump the fence for a close look - a few locals looking like extra's out of "Deliverance" and carrying shotguns  instilled a certain amount of reluctance on my part to investigate further....
Cheers

Raffle it at the nationals, $5 a ticket - every member would buy at least one ticket? Non-members would surely buy a few too?

Just back from another Simpson Desert crossing - spotted these dead FE/FCs along the way.....
I've attempted to put the photos on Photobucket, but I'm a dumb bastard when it comes to computers - hope it works!!
Try this - http://s182.photobucket.com/albums/x198/jack_fc/old%20holdens%20in%desert/old%20holdens%20in%20desert/
Maybe someone could post a reply re whether it works or not...

Ken, if HK-WB stubs, P76 rotors n HZ calipers used, what booster n master cylinder would you recommend?
Is the stud pattern  and stud length/diameter/thread on the P76 rotor same as FE-HG or is it necessary to buy blanks n get them drilled to suit FE-HG?
Dave; apologies for jumping in on your thread...

655  Galleries / Members' FEs and FCs / Overriders or not??? on: May 17, 2007, 11:49:18 PM
Gday, all
Have been looking at fehotrods FE on the real cars bit of the forum. Was considering losing the overriders off the front of my FC, n noticed that some computer genius's managed to remove the overriders off the photo of Jamie's FE. Would like to do this to a photo of my FC to see what it looks like, BUT - my computer skills dont even run to posting a photo on this forum...
Anyone out there prepared to have a go at this?  Maybe smithy or sgo (who did same to jamie's car)?
My son put a picture of my car on "real cars" - it's near the bottom of page 1 - FC Holden 1959; maybe someone could remove the overriders from that photo?
Cheers
Jack
ps  Jamie, love the look of your FE,  cool!!
656  General / General Board / Re: Driving slowly on: May 16, 2007, 06:39:43 AM
John, understand completely the joys of driving slow - I'm with you. Amazing how your driving style subtly changes with advancing age OOPS!!! meant advancing experience...  I'm looking at a seniors card soon, and find that these days the urge to indulge in "hoon" behavior (eg - laying rubber, etc ) only overides common sense once a week or so.....  Do I need help?

658  Technical Board / Restoration Help / boot interior restoration/modification on: May 09, 2007, 09:17:32 PM
Gday all
I want to line the wheel arches inside the boot with carpet-like material (black). Does anyone know of a suitable material that is capable of moulding neatly to the guards (I've already thought of "frontrunner" - any other suggestions?). Advice on adhesive, method and source of material also sought.
Also want to make inner trims for lining guards between wheel arches n tail lights (to be covered in same/similar material as above). Does anyone have a template for these, or do I make one? (I want to start at the join on the inner wheel arches). Advice on material sought - I thought 3 or 4 mm ply might be OK...
All feedback gratefully accepted
Regards, jack

retro
thanks heaps for the photos. Yes, uncle prune was a man of taste n style, n Im sure he'll send you down a blessing for sending me the photos. Mind you, a blessing from uncle prune, when he was with us, was when he DIDNT abuse or punch you....
If you ever want to sell it (n you wont if , like uncle prune, you're a man of taste n style), I'd be more than happy to park my work ute (HK,SB chev, t350, 9 inch) out in the cold salt air to make room for it in my shed with the FC
I dont care if it still needs work; it just looks 2FC.001!!

Hey retro
Is that your red n white FB sedan with spats in that last photo? My favorite uncle (long dead now) was a full-on rocker in the mid 60s, n had one EXACTLY like that! (oh, plus a fox tail on the aerial....)
I found a photo of that car somewhere on this forum, but being computer - illiterate, could not get a good print of it. Also, I'm a big fan of FB's having owned quite a few over the years (I drove my first car - FB wagon, round Aust in '69).
If its yours, "pretty please" could I possibly get you to email a good photo of it to me  - in rememberance of me old uncle Prune?
Thanks n regards
Jack
