Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin I thought Dean became awfully popular all of a sudden 70+ now, lucky the person who did it remains unnamed or they might have gotten into trouble Wink

                     Pedro

Yeah, Pedro, but he's a good bloke anyway!! (I'm talking about Dean; not the 'unnamed' shifty bastard who voted him up...  Grin)

126  General / General Board / Re: Respect Voting System on: June 10, 2012, 06:11:34 PM
All the theorising about ganging up on people and downvoting them is all quite valid, but it's never actually happened*.

The point of the +/- system was to alleviate some burden from the moderators.cheers
RET

Ret, I wasn't aware of the systems potential to alleviate some of the burden from the mods; if it achieves this aim without causing undue problems then it's a good thing...
But the system DOES appear to be causing problems for some contributors.

And whilst there's thankfully been no 'ganging up' on people and downvoting them, the potential is definitely there - just ONE person here (purely as an experiment) managed to vote another UP from +5 to around +66 in the space of a few minutes!
(said person then 'owned up' to the up-voted one who was most amused... and said person will now seek the assistance of a long-suffering Admin to restore the status quo Roll Eyes)

I hope that after more discussion on the pros and cons of the system, the Admins will see fit to put it to a public poll.

cheers, jack

127  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: Tar top Battery 12v. on: June 08, 2012, 04:16:35 PM
Hey Jack,

Do they make them as repros anywhere at all ??
Or are they just hard to obtain?

Champ, I'm fairly sure Tony's is a repro, he's the bloke to ask. It sure looked the part to me, but I'm no expert on tar top batts!
128  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: Tar top Battery 12v. on: June 08, 2012, 03:39:22 PM

Hey Champ, try sending a pm to 'Nasco Hunter' (Tony); he's got one in the FC sedan and may be able provide some info...

cheers, jack
129  General / General Board / Re: Respect Voting System on: June 08, 2012, 11:56:49 AM
This system is childish, counter-productive and something the forum would be better off without...

I treat it with total disdain and complete disregard.

(having said that, I'll admit to casting votes sometimes; +ve ones to every post that calls for the abolition of this stupid system!)

It is also wide open to abuse; consider could happen if a group of, say 8 or so members collectively decided to vote down (or up!) EVERY post made by a paricular member since this system was introduced?? That person could end up with a 'respect' rating of + (or - !) 100 in a very short time!

This sort of shite is NOT what I'm here for, but it sure as hell appears to be threatening what I AM here for...

However I accept that other users may like it, so maybe the Admins could set up a poll on this subject?

Yep, Pedro - it'll be a hell of a lot easier on her knees, but her rear tyres will wonder WTF has happened to their lives! Grin Grin

(and I trust the Butler has included a strengthened radio aerial in the modifications list...  Wink)

That looks purdy
 Dean.

Sure does; but just wait til you get a good pic of the exhaust manifolds - them's REAL purdy!!

Pedro; I reckon you're fair game now...   Wink Grin

Thanks heaps for that info, Stewy! Definitely worth a 'bookmark'
134  Galleries / Members' FEs and FCs / Re: NosFEratu on: June 02, 2012, 08:55:51 AM

Weddo, somehow I doubt the lovely red colour was chosen because 'red goes faster...'

More likely it was in the interests of correct colour co-ordination.

(you know how fussy some females can be with the 'does this look good with this' business. Grey obviously didn't match well, and I suspect that the only motor the poor Butler had laying around gathering dust in the shed that was the correct match colour-wise was the one pictured above. The fact that it will produce about 5 times the HP of the tired old Grey is entirely coincidental...  Grin Grin Grin)

When I was a young lout, 'insertion rubber' had a completely different meaning...

Now that I'm an old lout, I know that Keith is right  Smiley

Pedro might be able to delay the inevitable by playing the "you show me yours and I'll show you mine" card...  Grin Grin Grin

Kathi, there's NO WAY you can get up Pedro for progress reports without doing the same yourself, is there?  Wink Grin

see you both next weekend  Smiley
138  Galleries / Members' Completed FE-FC Projects / Re: FCRB30 Wagon on: May 30, 2012, 01:49:20 PM
Too late  Grin

foot in mouth, Pedro!

(for your sake, I hope that 'one day a week' has 24 hours of wagon time in it  Cheesy And in the VERY remote chance that she doesn't harrass you sufficiently, I know of a few others who definitely WILL...  Wink)

139  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Battery Life on: May 23, 2012, 03:17:04 PM
If theres no current draw from any source it wont matter.

Pete

True, Pete, but unfortunately most old cars I've owned did have some small current 'leak' even after my best but pitiful Roll Eyes attempts to track them all down and kill them, so I routinely fit a 'screw down' type switched battery lead terminal to a non-daily driver, and I usually open this switch after every drive...
(and if the battery is in the boot, this also makes it just a bit harder for tea leaves to start it. If the batt is under the bonnet, completely remove the [usually green] screw down knob; this slows amateur thieves down a bit too  Smiley)

Even so, the trickle charger is the best bet if you're not likely to start and run the car for weeks/months (just ensure that electrolyte levels are up to manufacturers specs before extended trickle charging, and that the battery - especially the top and terminals, is clean. If you're talking 'months' of hibernation, remove batt from car, and sit it on wooden blocks in a well-ventilated area then connect trickle charger)

cheers, jack
