Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: 3M verses Loctite ??

I've used Loctite 424 "for difficult to bond rubbers" on all my cars and reckon it's magic. You need to be carefull, only use minimum amounts and glue small sections at a time, and for blokes like me - allow a bit of extra time to unglue the fingers!

For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Cowl vent section
|
on: June 14, 2010, 09:40:05 PM
|
Hello all, After a bit of poking and scratching with a screwdriver at my new wagon project , I found a lot of fresh air where metal should be and the whole cowl vent area is pretty much "cactus". If anyone can help out please, I'm in need of a good cowl vent section. The hinge on the vent has also rusted off so if you have one of those as well would be great. Thanks, Leigh

I just used cable ties thru the flywire & around the top grille bar and bumper. Looks dicky but should save a lot of cleaning and overheating. Plan is to dispose of the used bit "in an environmentally friendly fashion" when I get to Orange and use a fresh piece for the trip home.

Wasn't going to worry too much about the 'hoppers, that is until I went on a shake down run to Traralgon and back - so now after much effort to remove the guts of just a few bugs, I'm in the middle of getting that flywire over the grille! Thanks for the tip Scotty cheers, Leigh
getting exciting now!!

Stubzy, hope the pics help.
Thanks Keith & Ed. Ed I'm always interested in ways to improve things so would like to see your low mount alternator. Couldn't work out how the heck I could get it hanging off anywhere else so will have to have a good chat about it at Orange! cheers, Leigh

Without the outrigger, the crossmember will flex back and forth on the mounts altering your steering geometry. This will result in unacceptable tyre wear and unbalanced braking over rough surfaces.

Hey Mike, I lived on the Gold Coast for 11 years and found the best way to preserve your car is to keep it clean, dry and in a garage. It's a good idea to give the inside of the doors, floors and boot wells a good dose of fisholene to protect from any water leaks. The new Fisholene has some sort of wax mix to help it stick around & is supposed to be low odour but don't believe that. If you use it, make sure you do it outside (or at someone elses place) otherwise the garage will be pongy for ages. cheers, Leigh

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: how they got the letters for year models

It's always intrigued me why Holden chose the V series as it was previously a Chrysler naming code and I didn't think manufacturers would want to have the public confusing them. Valiants went from VC to VH (also missing out on the VD) so as Holden have now got VE, I'm guessing the next model Commodore will be VF?

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Pat Gardiner Front End
|
on: August 18, 2009, 01:35:02 PM
|
Pat Gardiner has the right paperwork fo NSW & Qld engineers but apparently it needs to be more specific for Victoria. The engineer is usually a "common sense" guy and will most likely accept recommendation from another Victorian engineer that has passed one of these front ends. Trouble is I need to know who & that's why I've asked the question here so I hope someone can help. cheers, Leigh

Technical Board / Modification Help / Pat Gardiner Front End
|
on: August 17, 2009, 12:04:25 PM

Hi everyone, I'm having engineer problems getting a Pat Gardiner front end approved in an FC. Has anyone registered a car in Victoria with one of his crossmembers and what documentation did the engineer require? Mine says the info Pat Gardiner has provided is "rubbish". Thanks, Leigh
