Yes Ken,
The trim is exactly the same as the one on the FC posted, so it would be a later addition. That is a unique styletone trim, I have not seen one of those before.

Hi Ret, do you think the door to door trim may have been added later?

Thanks heaps Greg,
That would tally with the build dates of each vehicle.

Hi Guys,
I have three FC's and have a query about stainless trims. One car (the one I took to Phillip Island) has a short trim between the back door and rear window, mounted vertical across the pillar. The second car which I bought last week has a full trim from rear door to rear door, mounted on the flat and runs the same line as the rear glass trim with approx a 5 mill gap between them. The third car which I have stripped down to begin a rebuild has no trim in that area at all.
Was there any standard with trims or were they at the selection of the buyer at the time? :-/

Hi Tayz,
What sort of tripples have you got? When I recently built my grey motor I had a set of older style tripple
1 1/2 "SU's  with side fuel bowls, mounted on an original Lynx manifold, but had lots of trouble with them. I altered the manifold to fit later model High 38 SU's and  they are really sweet running, with very little need to tune them. Good luck with the rebuild. Smiley

Hi Ed,
My wife made our soft car cover from 4  flannelette sheets sewn together and I put a normal cheap car cover over this (whether its parked inside or outside) Wink

Hi guys, Weddo from Tassie here,

After seeing all those nice hot grey motors at Phillip Island I decided to do something with mine. Being in Tassie has some disadvantages for parts etc, but I have a reasonable supply of starter parts in good blocks and heads etc, but it took some time to find any go fast parts.  In Tassie, you buy what you can when you can. I managed to get a new set of unfinished step top pistons, Lynx manifold, a few sets of tripple SU's to choose from and a bloody good motor builder - John Brookefield - (Brockies early motor builder )- and of we went.  Well, we all know when not to say STOP !! when doing anything with grey motors, so although it cost two arms and three legs to build the motor and head - 10:1 compression, cam grind, alloy gears, full balance and alter the manifold to suit late model high 38 SU's there really is nothing like the deep throatal sound of a grey just wanting to go and go.

So good luck Ray and if you can ever build a hot one or a mild one you won't wipe the smile of your face Grin

There were two hundred hours of tapes that had to be cut down to fourty four minutes for the show on Saturday and it was my son Josh who had the  job to do the editing and do the graphics

Mike,
I had a similar problem with both springs, one side came off -  the other side the pin had broken. I removed the springs, pins and brackets and replaced them with gas strutts and haven't had a problem since
