Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Grey block identification

Hi Jim it is a long time! and I don't get on the forum all that often while we are travelling the big island. In my opinion any of the blocks you have or are able to get will all need stripping, cleaning, testing and measuring. The closest to standard bore the better, but as Ken has eluded to, a complete flush to enable an examination of the water jackets will also be a deciding factor.

Jim, the casting number will indicate when the block was cast, the engine number, being a police issued number will only indicate when the engine/block was first used. I have a police issued number indicating 1964 for a block that was cast must many years before and still standard bore. This is a preference when looking for a block for a rebuild that would hypothetically have less rust or corrosion.

Unfortunately Judi and I will not get to the Nationals. Our intention 8 1/2 months ago was to tour the big island in our 5th wheeler van for 18 months and coincide the QLD part of our trip with the Nationals (without a vehicle).
We sustained considerable damage to our van 6 1/2 months ago and have been in Ballarat ever since. Our legitimate claims through insurance have been rejected and we have been waiting over 3 months for a decision from the Ombudsman's panel with no timer frame in sight.
We are unable to move (and unable to provide publicly the damage sustained and the unreasonable reason for rejection at the moment) all we can say is that the estimate for repairs was over 103 thousand dollars and we are still battling it out.
Ballarat is a lovely area but we have now covered over 16 thousand K's looking around the whole district and beyond and are rather frustrated now.
We really hope every one has an enjoyable and safe trip to and from the Nationals with out incident and would like to wish the QLD / Toowoomba team the greatest success with their event.
cheers to every one and post up your travels so we can enjoy them .....and plenty of pictures please
regards
Weddo

I love this car, mainly because if you go back to the start of this thread and have a look how it began many people would have said "that is too rusty"! I looked at it and said "I hope he persists with it because it can be fixed" and that is exactly what you have done. You're perseverance is admirable. Keep up the great work, can't wait to see it finished and see another old Holden saved... Cheers, Jamie.
I remember when Nick picked up the car when we sold it because I thought "that is too rusty"! He has shown what I should have done !! Well done Nick regards Weddo

General / FE-FC Holden Nationals / TASSIE NATIONALS DVD AND POSTER !!!!

Ok.... it has been a long time coming but we are within days of lift off. The Tassie Nationals Poster has been printed and are all rolled up in little tubes ready for posting. The DVD is a couple of days away from collection. ALL TASSIE NATIONALS ENTRANTS WILL RECEIVE A FREE POSTER AND DVD in the post and hopefully by Christmas. If there are any Tassie Nationals entrants that have changed address since the Nationals please advise via Tassie.Nationals@gmail.com of your new address, club secretaries may be able help with this as well. If any clubs can take bulk orders for distribution to members please let us know also via Tassie.Nationals@gmail.com in an effort to keep our postage costs contained. (the postage costs exceed the cost of printing and DVDs!!) We will have a certain amount of Posters for sale and a certain amount of DVDs for sale as well after distribution to entrants. We look forward to a quick response in the coming week, if possible, to allow co-ordination of our posting schedule. Regards Weddo and the Tassie Nats Team
