ken -

i triple checked the chassis number and it is FC11245B.

that side of the car appears to have been repainted many years ago - maybe it has been replaced and the inner guard panel from a donor wrecked FC?

G'day all.

yes Josh is very happy to have found such a good car and yes, the 2 number plates were just sitting on the front bar when the pic was taken.

It hadn't been driven since the rego ran out in 2003 so we gave it a battery - checked the fluids - all was well - pulled off the coil lead - cranked it over until the oil pressure light went out - put the coil lead back on again - pulled the choke out - she spurted into life !   Shocked Shocked

Still had half a tank of fuel - she roared into life like a lion - purred like a kitten when idling - the clutch is as smooth as silk - the brake pedal is as solid as a rock  Cry

Ken - will get some numbers soon.

Doosee - yeh josh was lucky!  Shocked Shocked

A young friend has been on the lookout for an FC for quite a while - being an apprentice he hasnt got many spare dollars.   Sad
His persistance paid off, yesterday we picked up a 78,000 mile, one owner, FC sedan from under a house in Nundah, Brisbane.  Grin
The car was purchased new on 30 June 1958 and has always lived at the same address.  Shocked Shocked

this is where the car lived.

When first inspected the FC was thickly covered with years of dust - the owners son wiped it down before i could get a pic.

Still has the cross ply tyres

there is a bit of rust in the sills but none in the floor pans.

the front brakes were seized on so it was a winch job to get it on the trailer.

seats had been protected by seatcovers

we were pleased to find the seats squabs were not ripped, torn or sagged.

It is the original single colour but has been repainted some time ago.
Has a locking fuel cap, sunvisor, weathershield, 2 front seat belts and an FB bonnet bird.
No radio and it still has the rubber mats. Shocked Grin Grin

We are happy.

26  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: wanted - standard HR disc brake rims. on: April 12, 2008, 07:41:16 PM
I have a set of the new reproduction type rims - they are good and the ones i have, do hold a hubcap without any dramas.  however the offset isnt the same as on original HR rim - it is half an inch more offset ( inset ) whatever you call it.  the dress trims dont fit properly unless they are bent, hence the requirement for original HR rims.

today i got hold of a set of standard original HR rims for $35 each so i am happy.

also picked up a set of 2 x 5.5 inch widened steelies to match my spare 2 x 6inch widened steelies.  anyone interested?

30  Technical Board / General Technical / where to reco my VH40 booster? on: January 29, 2008, 10:44:44 AM
Where is the best place to buy an exchange VH40 brake booster as mine has had the gong.

I would prefer the item with the new plated finished look, rather than just black paint.

Mail order is fine.

thanks.

35  Technical Board / General Technical / lower tailgate for ute? on: August 03, 2007, 07:24:35 PM
Is the lower tailgate for a FC ute the same as a lower tailgate on a wagon?

What about the lower tailgate on a panel van?

Also are FE or FB or EK different?

thanks earlee.    Grin

looks great -  give yourself a pat on the back.   Shocked Grin Grin

Is that the standard VN tank in the boot?    Huh
Is it a good fit or is there a lot of messing around?   Huh

37  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: What Steel Wheels to use?? on: July 03, 2007, 10:05:21 PM
The standard 14" rims from HG and HT will fit the HR front end without fouling.  Unfortunately they are hard to source.

Don't bother with HK rims as they are the wrong offset.

Some Volvo rims also fit - I'm not sure which models.
