Technical Board / Modification Help / Fitting Tripple Su's
|
on: February 25, 2003, 04:19:05 AM
|
:)Hi to all, Wondering if anyone out there has put tripple SU'S on there 186 in a fe. I couldnt even put the manifold on without hitting the firewall, and thats not with the carbies on. It seem's there has to be a fair bit of metal that has to be moved to fit them. Just want to find out if other people had this problem , before i cut and weld in a section for the clearence. As i dont want to bash in the firewall, would rather cut it out and play with some sheetmetal. Also was it worth it in the end, when it was all all bolted up. Cheers Spider

:)Hi alex, I am new to doing this . I was putting the photo's in one at a time, and they had all come up with no hassles. But the last 2 days it only seems to load a few picture and thats it, so i dont know what is going on. Thanks for the comments on the glove box. It still has the holden special badge to go under it, i am just waiting for the weather to clear so i can start painting the car. It's been dry for ages and when i am ready to start the paint it starts raining and the humidity has been around the 80 to 90% mark,"YUK". So i am going to drop in the running gear instead, while i am waiting and see what else i can attack with the airbrush or pinstripe. Cheers Spider

:)Hi To all, I have 2 speedo's, one has a needle with the numbers on the outside, and the other one i took out of my fe parts car, has the numbers plus holden on the bottom of the speedo but does not have a needle, it has a orange wheel, so as the speed increases all you see is all orange up to what ever speed you are doing like a graph. If you can understand what i mean. Is this out of the FE,FC'S or is the speedo out of a later model Cheers Spider

The funny thing about all this crossmember debate is, that it has been passed by the TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT, and in Q.L.D. that is not easy for they are strict. The bracketery made up for the crossmember is 8mm thick, the side pieces that you see holding the gearbox bracket just doesnt have the spreader plate but also has a bracket bolted to the underfloor crossmember, this is all done in 8mm right angle steel, and gusseted. You can swing off the brackets and they dont move. the metal around it may fail under high stress.
The only way it will fail is if i had a high impact collision, and the original all steel steering column which does not have a crumple zone, would spear straight thru me first, before i tore out the floor. But anyway you will see me at the nationals and everyone can have a look. If it is good enough for the QLD TRANSPORT DEPT and they must think it is safe, it is good enough for me Cheers Spider

:)Hi Ken, The amount that came off was approximately 1mm, i also took them down to the local brake shop to show them what i had done, to check if it was safe and they said there would be no problem. The measurement between the top of the caliper to the bolt holes is 9mm, so there is still alot of meat there. But thankyou for your concern, it is much appreciated Cheers Spider

:)Hey Slim, Taking out the bolts was a s#*t of a job. And i had a mongrel of a time putting it back in. I needed 3 arms so i could try and line up the holes, get the bolt in, make sure everything is aligned, and then bash the hell out of the bolts. And i have to go thru it all again when i start on my ute Looking forward to that "NOT"
Cheers Spider
