7  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Engineers in South Australia. on: December 30, 2012, 10:00:00 PM
I engaged Rory Tompson to engineer a commodore LS1 5.7L motor into my LJ torana.  I got him to do the regency application, and we got an approval in principal from Regency.

They put a few conditions - can't remember them exactly.

from memory -

lane change test
dyno test (max power for tyre rating I think)
repeated brake test (check brake fade I think)
unmodified LS1 motor and ECU

An update to this post from 2010.

My grandad has passed 16/11/2012.

For those that didn't catch the story the first time, my grandad purchased a two tone grey FC brand new in 1959.  I fell in love with it as a tiny kid and the car was promised to me from a very early age.  I called it the "old bomb" but I still loved it.

Easter 2009 I bit the bullet and decided to drive from SA to NSW with a hire car trailer (sorry caltex servo, forgot to tell you that bit), and pick the car up from my grandparents.  Secretly I commenced a ground up resto.

It took exactly 1 year and I drove it back to NSW during Easter 2010.   We video'd me driving the car in their backyard and their surprise.  I will never forget these memories.  I keep a website and blog of the project.

The car managed to get in top 20 fe/fc's at the nats that year.

10  General / General Board / How to make your FC/FE go 300 km/h plus guaranteed ! on: May 13, 2012, 08:47:23 PM
Hi All,

Just uploaded a photo of my fc holden and will be placed on mark webbers car for the british f1 later next year. Most people upload their faces, but I don't want to put him off with my ugly scone

https://www.facesforcharity.com/en/home.html

Would be great to see a bunch of FC's and FE's on his car !! Cost is around $20 (15 euros) and goes to charity.

12  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Seat belts on: September 24, 2011, 10:03:19 AM
Dunno about VIC, but heres my understanding of the rules in SA.

No seat belts are required for unmodified FE / FC's.  If you fit the seat belts you can't later remove them.

Recently stinky advised that young kids can't travel in a car without seat belts, unless its on historic/club rego.

Another recommendation for Stinky's upholstery.

I had my interior done by stinky, including reproducing the seat embossing on late FC's.

Cheers

Hi Matt,

Ute is looking good.  I bet you can't wait to get it back on the road.

I've too got a FC in SA.  Its a sedan with 2 tone grey - dark primer and light primer Wink

I got mine from  vinwire.  Highly recommended since it's a perfect fit for fc's.  Everything is labeled and has the right connectors.  I reckon you could wire it up in 2 hrs.  I had to order the headlamp loom and rear loom separate.

Dunno about DIY universal kit, might be cheaper but could take a couple days to sort out what's what.

cheers
Peter
16  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Soda blasters - Ballarat - Adelaide or Melbourne on: April 01, 2011, 11:18:41 PM
I had my complete car done at Adelaide fast blast.  Steve the owner used both soda and sand.  Serves into fc's too.

Are these the ones that go through the firewall ?  If so try cleaning the glue / putty stuff from inside the engine bay.

20  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Complete Re-Chrome for Fc ute bits and pieces on: January 21, 2011, 02:09:28 PM
Fc special Sedan cost at one in adelaide is 4 or 5k.

That includes all chrome stuff rechromed and all stainless polished.

Diecast items can be challenging.

U can get cheaper but results can vary.
