Brocky was one of my idols as I was growing up in the late 1970s and I got a chance to have a good little yarn with Brocky at last year's Brocky's Big Day Out. It was awesome to be able to talk to and crack a joke with a motoring legend who came across as an ordinary bloke with a great sense of humour .... no pretentiousness or snobbiness. Australia has lost one of its finest sons, if not THE finest. RIP Brocky .... hope there's plenty of Holdens up there for you in that great place in the sky mate!!! Pete

.......and I enjoyed the P76 article with a fellow member of the other motering club I belong to. The P76 article was definitely a great one, especially as the P76 featured was one of the rare-as-hens-teeth Aspen Green Targa Florios. Don't get me wrong, I've always admired the P76 (me and an old mate used to bush-bash a P76 V8 Super in our teens) but it's obvious to the average (un)trained Aussie male eye (namely MEEE!!!! ) that the FE/FC's are somewhat more aesthetically pleasing .... none of the P76's 'big hips' look in a FE/FC. Congrats to Graham & Graham for having such beautiful FE/FC's (and keeping them that way). Regards ...... Pete

G'day Darcy, You're not wrong about a tight fit there mate .... you might just be able to squeeze in a G-O-G-G-O-M-O-B-I-L Dart in between the EK and Westy 3 though. The EK sure looks like it could be a winner with some work put into it, keep us all posted. Regards ...... Pete

Have read the article .... a very interesting read. The section discussing the use of Toyota superchargers to boost a Grey in lieu of a Norman will definitely be of great interest to hot-rodders looking to make a Grey-powered Holden fly.

Just came across the April edition of Australian Classic Car with your FE in it David, excellent article and very informative. I believe so far it is the second edition of ACC to feature a segment on the FE (I believe Wayne's FE was the first a couple of years ago). But geez .... DID you have to leave out your baby pic?? That baby pic is PRICELESS!!! Regards ...... Pete

Hey revolva58, here's a pic of a 'Crestline' bodyflash kit fitted to an FC, as made by Tilli's which was a Melbourne-based company if my memory serves me correctly. Tilli's supplied a large range of aftermarket bodyflash kits for cars until I believe sometime in the early 1970s (someone please correct me on that point if I'm wrong). Pic was taken from an earlier thread started by COL58FE about a Waggot twin-cam equipped FC. Regards ...... Pete

Great maps David, absolutely awesome to see such touring maps as when they first came out. Would anyone know if such maps turn up on Ebay from time to time? I sure wouldn't mind getting hold of some of those beauties, especially if there are any old Mobil/Shell touring maps of Victoria. They remind me of when I was growing up of how life was so much simpler and much less hurried.
Cheers ...... Pete

Cold Chisel and an FC ute hmmmm .... doesn't get much better (and Australian) than that. "The last FC out of Melbourne's almost gone ......" Chisel - Welcome to the forum, this is THE forum to be on, sure hope to see some pics of 'old Chisel' once you started resto work on her. Also, what plans you got for your $40 FE? Regards ...... Pete

Well, well, well so the auction has FINALLY come to an end for the so-called 'last Monaro' with the winning bid at $187,600.00. Christ Almighty, with that kind of money one could have scored themselves a true king of the muscle cars, something along the lines of a 1970 Dodge Charger Daytona or Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird (and yes, I mean a 426 Hemi-powered version), 1969 Ford Torino Talledega or a Shelby GT500 Mustang. Or to be patriotic, 2 HK GTS 327-powered Monaros, maybe 1 or 1/2 Phase 3 GTHO Falcons (yuck) or even better and more humble .... a garage full of restored FE's, FC's (and EH's for good measure). Hope the (un)lucky final bidder chokes on his purchase if Holden decide to recreate yet ANOTHER Monaro in the near-future. Pete

Hi there Dags,
Gotta hand it to you, lovely colour combo on the FC .... am drooling over the maroon uppers, very nice. Interior also looks real neat from what I can see. Let us all know how the FC runs once you got the twin carbs installed and properly set up.

Well at this time it is now $503,350.00 Well I'll be damned. THAT much for a Monaro (even if it is the last one)?? Looks like my dad has been right all along with his favourite saying .... "a fool and his money are soon parted". Wonders shall never cease. Pete

Hi air-chief, You obviously know of the car so yes, the street is named after THAT girl and yes, the suburb is named after THAT footy team (which I hate). :-/ Or are you ummm .... the owner of the car? If you're not the owner, I hope you keep the exact car location to yourself. Cheers ...... Pete

These are the photos of the car in question: I haven't inspected the car in detail, mechanically nor bodily, but I did notice some rust along the lower edges of the doors. I believe with a bit of TLC it would be golden. Please don't ask me to reveal the exact location of the car as I will only tell you to contact the seller. Cheers ...... Pete

For Sale and Wanted / Cars For Sale / Black FE For Sale (Melbourne)
|
on: January 25, 2006, 12:48:34 PM

Hi there fellas,
I don't know if this is ethical or in breach of forum guidelines so please someone let me know if it is in breach.
On page 106 of the February 2006 edition of JUST CARS, there is an ad for a 1957 FE Special up for sale which is as follows: "1957 Holden FE Special, black, completely original with motor rebuilt less than 1500 miles ago. One owner for last 17 years. Excellent chrome & minimal work required for a truly beautiful example, GRN 650. Mob: 0421 796 810 (VIC) $5,990"
The thing is that I know which suburb the car is located in (not telling) and I have often driven past the car parked on the street to admire it. Additionally I have photos of the car in question which were sent to me by another forum member who has also seen it parked on the street. I will put these photos up shortly. Again, particularly as I don't know and haven't spoken to the seller, could someone please advise me if my post is in breach of forum guidelines and if neccessary delete the post.
Cheers ...... Pete

Ahhh what an FC .... if only GM-H IMHO had thought of your bodywork idea first. It could have been the most revolutionary 'two-tone' paint scheme to have set the Australian motoring world ablaze in 1958. Regards ...... Pete
