1  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Fc side trim on: June 12, 2023, 06:02:33 PM
Maybe some good quality double-sided tape as used by panel shops?
2  Technical Board / General Technical / Tail light lens and wiring on: June 12, 2023, 03:37:42 PM
Looking at the original wiring diagram in my workshop manual it shows the stop, turn and tail light going to a double filament globe (the red lens) and the backup (reverse) going to a single filament globe (the clear/orange lens).

My question is should it be left like this as it was in the fifties or would it be better to modify it more up-to-date?; possibly the stop and tail light only to the red lens,(this could also benefit from a separate wire from the stop light switch to the second filament as at present one black wire appears to serve both stop and tail). And then to fit a double globe/fitting for the reverse and indicator light to the clear/orange lens?

Regards Ronno
3  Technical Board / General Technical / EJ 3 speed gearbox on: September 05, 2022, 11:39:47 AM
I know FE FC Forum, however I bought a grey motor out of a EJ holden for my FC project, it came with a 3 speed manual gearbox. My guess is it is not suitable for the FC Holden as amongst other things it is it is longer than the original FC gearbox, so I want to move it on.
My (for advertising purposes) question is will it also suit the EH to HK models? Cheers
4  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Distributor location on: July 17, 2021, 06:39:54 PM
I installed a distributor on an original grey today, but the vacuum advance seems a little too close to the steering colum linkages. Could anyone tell me where I can find some images of the original positioning of the distributor? Cheers
5  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Vacuum wiper switch assembly/diagram needed on: March 04, 2021, 06:32:01 PM
Thanks to you both for your help, I will try with your help to get it back together first. I will need my wives help to take photos and also to post it (this could take a little while) I feel a bit hopeless maybe I should have had her clean it and put it back together. Cheers
6  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Vacuum wiper switch assembly/diagram needed on: March 03, 2021, 06:48:49 PM
Does anyone have a diagram/exploded view of the wiper switch mechanism? not sure how it goes back together as I dropped it, it contains a spring washer, pin, 2x blank washers, small pin, & spring. Thanks Ronno
7  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: silly question? on: October 28, 2020, 02:11:14 PM
Thanks Vern, you saved me some time -they are very worn to about the same size, able to see it now with your help. Cheers
8  Technical Board / General Technical / silly question? on: October 27, 2020, 08:35:39 PM
Does the linkage to the gearbox (coming of the steering column) that is nearest (or closest) to the firewall go to the gearbox linkage on the bottom, or the one on the side of the gearbox (original Fe crash box)?
9  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: For Loan: Stromberg tuning tools on: September 05, 2020, 03:45:51 PM
Any idea where I could get a new top gasket on its own? (not sure correct name- the large main body one)
10  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: EJ Grey Gearbox swap on: September 05, 2020, 03:37:46 PM
Having done more research it appears they are different (what a surprise), although no clear answers- it appears to be a grey area (ha). I will compare the two when I remove the old one from the car.
11  Technical Board / General Technical / EJ Grey Gearbox swap on: September 05, 2020, 03:12:32 PM
Will the EJ Grey 3 speed manual box be a straight forward swap to replace the FC manual box (fit tail shaft etc)? Cheers Ronno.
12  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Coil Electronic Distributor on: August 07, 2020, 03:21:57 PM
I am looking at some online Electronic Distributors to suit the Grey motor and am considering getting one, my question is does the coil need to be changed and If not, would the the Bosch Gt 40 be a good choice? Cheers Ronno
13  General / General Board / Last FC and Bonnet mascot on: August 19, 2019, 01:04:59 PM
Was the last FC Holden built on the 13th of January 1960? I think that is what it said on a Wiky site (although some say what is said on there is not alway correct). My other question, is the large chrome bonnet emblem only a NASCO aftermarket item or were they also a GMH factory option and does it represent anything in particular eg a jet? Cheers Ronno
14  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: 13" rim tyre sizes. on: August 19, 2019, 12:45:51 PM
The 14" rims look very in proportion and easier to find tyre's for I would think.
15  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: 13" rim tyre sizes. on: August 18, 2019, 07:58:21 PM
Further note; Errol 62 was kind enough to have measure a cross-ply 650, at 610mm with a circumference of 1916mm, my tire or tyre is close to original? Though I still have not found what a 640 would be. Ronno
16  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: 13" rim tyre sizes. on: August 18, 2019, 12:25:22 PM
@ 40 lb (i had more air put in to make it easier to move) they measure 1925 mm round, how does that compare to original 640 I wonder? Widest width/sides of tire is 17 cm tread, width on-road/tread is 12 cm. I would have liked 185s but if the tire guy is right they are not legal here in WA although it would take fussy vehicle inspector, Khumho 185s where extra $120 not much more but my wife is very interested in the project even though she is not a car enthusiast . The Fc, in my opinion, looked like it had too small a rim and tire from new, maybe I should have looked at 14-inch rims but I bet that's not legal either and my guess is the hubcaps don't fit. So a roller skate it is, hopefully a good looking one. Ron
17  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Up date on: August 17, 2019, 07:33:29 PM
So what I went for in the end (after a lot of ringing around) was Maxtrek 175 C (c being light commercial) the 185 I was told is for a wider rim at the tire place, I used the rims of a Fe  parts car I have as they were in better condition than the FC's and had never been repainted however cleaning them is another story and I would suggest sandblasting? if doing it again. I had tubes fitted came to a total of $420 (I know probably $300 in the Eastern States). Now it ill be easier to move about when I find the long term spot in the shed, I will put it on (can't think of the name at the moment - Jacks?) or those steel adjustable things and remove the tires. Just an added note the hight of the tire is 60cm, an old 6.50 That I have is 61cm, can't remember what original 6.40 is but I am sure someone did tell me. Cheers.
18  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Electronic distributors on: July 30, 2019, 03:38:19 PM
I have in the past fitted an AccuSpark conversion (pointless) to a morris minor distributor it worked very well, not sure if they have one to suit a Holden but could be worth a look.
19  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: 13" rim tyre sizes. on: July 30, 2019, 03:30:38 PM
Thank you Errol, no surprise that WA the nanny state is the dearest. I may have to wait until they have a special offer eg 4 for the price of 3, I am still interested in any pics of cars with 175's on them they are about half the price over here.
20  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Tyre white walls ..seperate wide type that fit when tyre fitted . on: July 29, 2019, 11:22:12 PM
