Thanks for the compliments, Crump - It's supposed to be a 2 pack version of adobe beige. I matched the colour on the glovebox at the paint shop.
Originally it should have been Ascot grey, but it was always cream coloured as long as I remember... And I wasn't too keen on the grey either.

As a big thank you to everybody who has assisted me over the years with technical advice and guidance, please see below some images of the FC Ute I completed in 2010. This Forum and its members have been a fantastic resource for me as I embarked on restoring my grandfather's FC Holden. This car came into the family late in life as a retirement project for the old fella. I restored again from 2005 - 2010 following his passing. I am very happy with the end product (but are you ever really finished) and it cheers me up every time I take it for a drive - even in chilly Canberra. The old girl will be packed away for the majority of this year while I work overseas so today's polish and service is likely to be the last for a while. [/img] Once again, thanks for the memories, and I look forward to meeting you all at a Nationals some time.

For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / GIVEAWAY - FC Panel Van windows
|
on: December 08, 2013, 02:27:22 PM
|
I helped out an old fella who has insisted I take some form of payment for some parts I gave him.
As a result, I have a set of FC Holden Panel van window frames / slides to give away to some one who wants them.
I am trying to post pics on Photobucket - without luck. If you PM me, I'll send some pics via email etc. They look in good condition, albeit without glass.
I am located in the Canberra area.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Carby - Inlet Manifold insulator / spacer
|
on: October 08, 2013, 12:28:45 PM
|
Can anyone advise of reproduction spacers / insulator for the inlet manifold to carburettor base on standard grey motor?
Finally found a small crack in mine and need to replace it. Rare Spares in CBR have advised they have none in their catalogue.
What does everyone else use or does anyone have a contact for repro??

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Stromberg carb coughs on cornering

ThankS FE 350, ill check vacuum line again etc.
She runs well now as the original carb had a worn throttle shaft. The reco'd one sorted the issues with idle and surging at about 45-50 mph and now she runs well through the range and sits at cruising speeds without an issue. Problem is just when i turn right on thees wide Canberra roundabouts and only when turning to the right. It's not a major issue, just more annoying than anything else because it coughs, then gets a head of steam up again shortly after.
Should have clarified, on the fuel. I have no issues with the fuel and not linking it to this issue. Just wondering what forum users recommend. I've been using 98 BP ultimate, but a few old blokes have told me to use the standard non-ethanol blend due to consistency to older fuel and also the fact that ethanol blends are hydroscopic and eventually will rust the tank out.

Technical Board / General Technical / Stromberg carb coughs on cornering

I having some minor issues with the carby coughing while rounding right-hand turns (canberra roundabouts).
New carb has been installed but issue persists. Have dropped float level to handbook specs and serviced fuel pump.
Engine is a stock grey in my FC holden ute which I have restored.
Can you guys also advise the ideal fuel to be used in the old grey. I've been told both 98 Octane with the advance wound forward, or 95 with stock setting.

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Good Chrome Plater
|
on: October 19, 2008, 09:02:32 AM

Pine Rivers did the bumper bars and other bits on my ute and did a very good job. I was pretty impressed because when I went to pick it all up, the plater was not happy with the tail light surrounds and asked if he could keep them for antoehr week and do them again (at no extra charge).
They had a heap of motorbike stuff there which gave me confidence because hey, who wants to rip off bikies! Can't remember exact price but it was very reasonable compared to others.

Thanks Stinky bloody marvellous. Mum now reckons the colour could have been Maize Cream cause it looks deeper on that site than the test bit I did at home.
Looks like it's back the paint shop. Really appreciate all the help so far lads!

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Paint time

Don't know if this is in the right place of the forum, but it's nearing paint time on my 58 FC Ute and I had picked out Cape Ivory as the colour.
I did a test piece yesterday and it looks a bit light. Can someone point me towards a photo of a car painted in the colour?
It seems really light, almost off-white in my bits and pieces. I want the ute to remain standard as a replica of one of my grandad's old ones (all his photos are in black and white!)

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Front subframe
|
on: March 23, 2005, 01:37:46 PM
|
G'day Lads,
Does anyone have any advice when it comes to repairs to the front subframe of an FC.
The one on the ute I am restoring is severely rusted in the two legs leading back to the floor and also really badly around the front rail (underneath the grille) where the outrigger on the front end bolts on (pardon the country slang).
I haven't had much luck tracking down a new sub frame but I do have a good half of one in the shed that could fix the rotten left side.
Any suggestions? Good site by the way.
