Technical Board / General Technical / Re: FITTING GRILLE AFTER PAINTING ?

I agree, lead filler, surprisingly flexible for it's strength. The engine probably goes in easier with the gearbox attached, simply because the two people under the car have got something to grip onto well before the bulk of the engine enters the bay. So better control (less scratches).
I have done this type of install with an A frame lifter and me under the car getting my chest crushed under the weight in my younger days in a freshly painted engine bay, so it can be done.
And yeah 4 people (sober) to do it.

There are definitely mobs around who will fill your deeper scratches and chips with injection moulding. Hearsay is about 60 or 70 bucks, you could do this after doing the general cut and polish.
You might also consider trying brasso (coarse) and Silvo (finer) to really bring it up too. This is what we use on CDs when they get scratched.
I would challenge anthing to come up with a better finish. Well perhaps the jewellers rouge...

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Fuel Tank Cleanout

Yet another strange idea for the fussy ones out there.
I used to do a lot of scuba diving and if you own your own tanks they have to be certified every year, otherwise the dudes won't fill them with gas. Aaaaanyway when you take a steel tank to them they give it for a rumble, which essentially means the fill it with little ball bearings and shake it around and that gets every bit o crap out of there that you can imagine. Then they pressure test em to make sure they hold the air.
Do you reckon that would be clean enough for the old FE-FC?
For about $70-80 bucks these guys could we worth chasing up.

I know this sounds silly but the best vinyl cleaner is either RP7 or CRC, whatever your preference is. No kidding, try it, takes off kiwi piss and all.
Secret old chinese family recipe.

The badge as I said earlir was nicked by some jerkoff. Would you like hinges with your order?

For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / FC Station Sedan being stripped down
|
on: March 09, 2005, 10:54:41 PM

Hi there all. I am stripping down an FC SW to parts for sale on eBay. I have everything but the motor and gearbox available, all in various conditions. Basically the shell is not good enough to restore but much is in good nick. Most glass, most stainless trims, grill, doors, windscreen visor, sun visors, tail gates, mechanical parts, wheels etc. I am in Daylesford, Vic and I am happy to take all enquiries and reasonable offers. You can email me or call Peter on 03 5348 5584. Bigger items probably need to be picked up unless of course you are prepared to pay the freight or postage and the glass should most definitely be collected. Oh! the shell is also for sale if you need body bits. I will post the item numbers as they are listed on eBay to this group if I don't hear from a member regarding interest beforehand. cheers Peter
Further to my description, I would like to say that this is not any kind of reno job. Has been parked under a tree since 1970 something so all parts have some ageing and fading etc. If you want perfect chrome and non old stuff. Please consider paying for either NOS or reproduction items, or steal the car from the GMH collection. However that said many items are pretty damn good and in fact has only 22,000 miles on the clock. Even the rusty panels are rusty in appearance but actually reasonable steel underneath. The rust seems to essentially be in the floor sections and the left hand side has some dings, probably what put it off the road way back then. Payment can be just about anything except Paypal. Feel free to send money anytime.
