Hey Stinky my old girl is looking great! It was already painted those colours when I bought it but looks even better now! I sure do miss her and every time I see another FC wagon I get a little sad though it sure has gone to a great home! I am completely wagonless at present too, having sold my 57 Chev and my XY wagons, bout time I found another one, just not sure what yet though I did see a nice Buick the other day!

I like the flash above as it mirrors the bustle in the quarter that starts in the back door. Be sure to have it parrallel to the main stripe or it will look odd either way.
My thoughts exactly. To me the top is more in keeping with the lines of the EK and is also a bit like 57 Chev and there sure is nothing wrong with that!

HK, HT and HG are early pattern and have 14" centres. The HK is readily identifiable with 8 slots (4 sets of 2) around the outside and has a different offset to HT and HG. All will fit into the step down rims (if you can find any!) and you get whatever offset you need. If you find someone who has the steel step down rims in stock let us all know.

The step down wheels were usually called 'mexican' rims and were 15" rims for 14" centres, usually quite wide though. I believe the factory that made them no longer exists though (burnt down?) and these rims are near impossible to get now? Try Neway wheels in Melbourne, they will know.

Can anyone ID Dave's 'Station Sedan' for me? It used to be an FC but Stinky bought it from me and this is the replacement 57 Chev 210 4 dr wagon (with Belair strips). I am still into FC's just don't have one at present!

HQ-HZ should all be the same stubs but HQ had cast iron calipers where the rest had alloy. You should be able to buy new blank HQ-HZ rotors from Hoppers Stoppers and they can drill them any pattern you want, including FE-HG but you must run 14" wheels minimum.

I agree with Ken that it is a personal choice thing, Ken has obviously been a bit luckier than me. The FE/FC does have one advantage in that the light is higher than on a 57 Chev making it much more visible. I found turning right the biggest issue as people would overtake you, not thinking you were turning.
This happened to me once at Melbourne Showgrounds when going to a VDC Swap Meet. Fortunately I saw the person overtaking me in my mirror and stopped the turn. They narrowly missed me. Eddie Ford (Restored Cars Magazine) had his Oldsmobile Wagon wiped out in exactly the same spot in exactly the same manner a short time later. I had 2 other identical near misses when about to turn right before changing to amber rear indicators and had no incidents after that.
I also never had any similar incident in my FC Wagon, which had amber rear lenses. Could be coincidence, however the rules were changed back in 1960 for this very reason, to distinguish stopping from turning. It is still your choice but be very aware that if you choose to run red indicators always check the right mirror carefully before you commence any right turn! The very first change I am doing to the new Chev is to put the reverse lights in with orange globes and using them as rear indicators, rather than the red, just like my old one.

That clutch is a heavy sucker isn't it? Is this the red for the wagon or the sedan? The Auto sure will sort that clutch problem. Did you get the steering wheel okay? I miss the old girl but looking forward to the Chev's debut this Sunday.

Hi Stinky, hope your having fun in my old wagon! The second spade connector is usually only used to supply 12 V power to the coil to bypass the resistor when the starter is cranking. If using a points ignition I would use it. If not just leave it unconnected.

Most states of Australia required amber rear indicators for all vehicles built after 1st January 1960. Manufacturers geared up before that a bit earlier. That is why FCs went to Amber lens at the bottom with indicators and why 59 Chevs (most were sold in 60) had the Chromed Guide indicators dropped under the wings (anyone have any spares?).
Your car will indeed be legal with red rear indicators, however after being nearly run into numerous times in my old 57 Chev I went out and bought repro reverse lights (and put amber globes in them) for indicators. I was nearly wiped out on 3 occasions before that and not once afterward. Young drivers do not notice the red flashing indicators and have no idea what they are!
If my FC wagon had not had the amber rear indicators already I would have converted it over the way Dr Terry said. No point having a totally original car with a whole side wiped out of it!

I have for reluctant sale my FC Holden Station Sedan as seen on my avatar to left and the pic below. I am asking $5000 o.n.o. Car has full Victorian Rego. Has excellent running grey motor and 3 speed but with modern alternator, power boosted brakes and halogen headlights. Fitted with 14" mags and radials. Painted turquoise and white. Runs and drives really well and could drive interstate no problem. Not an immaculate concourse car but a nice head turning car which I use regularly. Has does have some minor rust. Only selling due to purchase of a Classic Chevy Wagon. Sadly I cannot keep them all! For more info and pictures go to http://www.hot-rod.com.au/fc/fc.htm I will add some more photos soon. Please email me direct to dave@kustom.net or phone (03)54724003 or mobile 0417135240. Please no tyre kickers. Car is for genuine sale so genuine buyers only!

You could also look at something like Hankook who make a nice whitewall in a 13 " although they are only about a 185/70 13 in WSW radial. They are a good tyre for the price. If I was going wide I would look at all the brands.
