Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Greymotor towing

If you want to keep it original, get a Towing cam in your engine. Perhaps a ute center for your diff. If you can modify it slightly, perhaps a trimatic, thermo fan, a oil cooler for your gearbox and disc brake front end. A decent torque converter for the auto perhaps. If you want a manual get a syncro three speed out of an ej or eh. The more gears the better a toyota 5 speed. All depends on how origional you want the car to be. The engine itself can handle the power needed, its just that the rest of the vehicle was not designed with towing in mind. Make sure that you can keep it cool.

VDO Australia are the people to talk to about these things. They supply them for fords and holdens. My freind just bought a kit for his EH. He got a Speedo that had a digital odometer display. Cost about 300 bucks. Easy as pie to install.

What is the weight of an FC ute? Could any one estimate what they think a FC uts shell would weight?i.e. panels, windows, engine and drivetrain removed?

At the moment I have a SS v8 efi and T5 box on the floor.. it has aircon and power steer on it. I Have found a way to connect a rear mounted rack with the power steer attached. No loss of turning circle.... hopefully. I have no dilemmas is cutting up this ute as it is full of rust anyway. I have the condesor out of a commodore and it is quite small. I am looking for any suggestions or inspiration that can Help me do this conversion. I will keep you posted as to what I have done and how it is progressing if you are interested.

what is the correct hood ornament for a FC ute? Does it rely on the production date? Or the specs of the car.. special or other...
