Considerable time, energy and cost has gone into this ute and it is not getting the use it deserves.

Before I list on ebay I thought I should give club members first opportunity to buy. I bought this ute with Slim some eighteen months ago in the Western suburbs of Sydney. The previous owner had it stored under a car cover for some six years after painting and ripping out the original grey to convert to a red.

I have since fitted with a recond grey and tried to keep fairly original. It does have the Hadfield non original floor hump. New Parts fitted over this time include:

Brake Master Cylinder
Wheel cylinders, front brake lines and diff brake line
Machined brake drums
New brake shoes
New hand brake cables
Clutch and Pressure Plate
Clutch Master and Slave cylinder
New Alpine cd/mp3

Indicator assembly(2nd hand)

Included with the vehicle are quite a range of spare parts including: one grey motor(head crack tested by Repco but may need rings.
Generators/Starters/Carburetors/Distibutors/fuel pumps
Old Tin reservoirs(brake and clutch)
Front bumper
Ignition switchs/taillight assemblies/vacuum and electric wiper units
4 standard hubs
Spare glass (rear corners and wind screen)
Grill (dissembled)
Front splash guard
Sundry other

It has been rust proofed underneath with a black rubberised sealant and there is no rust in the usual areas in the back (rear of cabin or around fuel tank). It has a marine ply floor rather than the original slats. No rust in the cabin floor. Interior(roof and door panels) has been retrimmed a black however there is no carpet installed.

It will however require a repaint at some stage as paint is beginning to lift on the roof and at the tip of the front guards and top of tailgate. Spare wheel door is fibreglass and tailgate apart from superficial paint lifting is in great shape.

It starts and drives very nicely. I am wanting $6000 and will post pictures here later tonight.

There are some pictures on this forum in the Member cars section under my login. If anyone is really keen they can also take the parts ute (that is pictured)

3  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: steering column/indicator wiring help. on: May 19, 2005, 09:13:43 AM
Mike

I had the same issue recently when reconnecting indicator assembly and brake lights etc.

I've got both the Factory workshop manual and the aftermarket one put out by Gregory's. I found the Gregory's wiring diagram very simplistic and a lot easier to follow. If it helps I can fax you a copy of the relevant page if you haven't got it and nothing else works.

Seem to recall that I had similar issues with  back and front indicators not working in unison until the white wire was connected to a double connector with two orange wires leading off to primary light switch and courtesy lights.

Hope this helps

Thanks Guys

Tayz : The previous owner had chopped the floor for a "red" conversion. I was hoping to put original back in but local engineer advised it would be too hard so I opted for the "Hadfield" tunnel option. So to answer your question ;it is running the standard 3 on the tree grey! Anyone know if the gearbox changed over the life of the grey? FC to EH

Norm: Be great to finally meet you and if I find myself in Grenfell soon will give you a yell.
5  Galleries / Members' FEs and FCs / Ute FC2106  #57    First Run! on: April 03, 2005, 12:08:51 AM
Hopefully to be registered within the next couple of weeks. Survived it's first run (5 km) on country roads.

A few teething problems with linkages not giving a smooth gearchange, horn and wipers not working.(not that rain is expected any time soon) ,my tyre issue to be sorted and some minor panel/paint.
6  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Tyres - mag wheels on: April 01, 2005, 08:15:14 PM
Thanks Sarge

I was quoted $200 a tyre for BFG so the Bridgestone option is a worthy alternative!
7  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Tyres - mag wheels on: March 31, 2005, 10:14:40 AM
As my Fc Ute inches closer to roadworthiness/registration ( so close that I can taste it!) I could use some advice regarding tyres.

It has mag wheels currently running B F Goodrich 215/50 x 13. I have a spare set of Goodyear 205/60 x 13 and also 4 original rims with basic radial tyres 165 X 13?

I require either 2 new  BFG 215/50 X 13 (which don't seem to be very cheap) or to change to the Good Years.

Has anyone run these two different tyre sizes and got any advice/experience to share. I am reluctant to go to the standard rims as subjectively I prefer the look of the wider rims.

Thanks
8  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Regulator or Generator problems? on: March 22, 2005, 04:03:27 AM
Hello

Have just reconnected wiring in my FC ute after installing a late model grey engine (ej or eh).

After starting; the gen light on dash goes out but after about 5 minutes running it comes on and the regulator starts making a "ticking" noise. Quite hot to the touch as well!

I have kept the original Bosch regulator but have a Lucas one to replace it with if needed.

Is there any major difference between the original equipment Bosch and the later Lucas (RB 310).

Can/Do many things go wrong with regulators?

Thanks in advance

Now working!
10  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Brake lights or taillights but not both.... on: March 18, 2005, 12:08:58 PM
Am having issues getting brake and tail-lights to work  together.

Brake lights work fine however I have no taillights. If I run power directly to the terminal on the light switch the taillights work however there is no discernable difference when the brake pedal is pushed. Are they two separate circuits ?

Any help much appreciated! Have the workshop manual with wiring guide but obviously written for a higher intellect  Cry

12  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Grey Motor no compression on: February 15, 2005, 06:35:25 AM
Thanks Peter

Ended up removing the head. Valves definitely stuck. Off to the local repco for cylinder head work.
13  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Grey Motor no compression on: February 12, 2005, 11:38:35 AM
I have a grey "J" motor that has been stored for (I think)a number of years.

After spraying penetrating oil in the bore it turns quite freely; however despite spark at the plugs it will not fire. I did a compression test which revealed extremely low compression on all cylinders which did not improve when a little oil was introduced to each of the cylinders.

The engine presents well with evidence of new gaskets throughout, welsh plugs, clean oil and little residue in the sump or underside of tappet cover.

Would anyone know if the low compression could be caused by stuck valves? and if it is possible to remedy/check without removing the head?

Has anyone experienced an engine with extremely low compression on all cylinders; is this typically what happens through excessive wear/age or a catastrophic meltdown?

Appreciate any help/suggestions

Alex

Unsure as to when it was last rego'd. Before I got it; it had been sitting in a shed for at least 6 years.

The only modification I am aware of is that the engine is from a later series - I think an FB. It has been a typical farm ute. I will email you some shots I took today.

Everything with the exception of the horn still functions.

Slim

half of it probably once lived in your garage!! No dramas;will get you some more photos. Tailgate and spare wheel door functional only.

A good price may well entice me to stick it behind the landcruiser and deliver to Sydney.

18  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Green Engine? in FC Ute on: November 13, 2004, 06:24:19 AM
Probably a very stupid question however....
My spare parts ute has a green engine in it. Looks to be exactly the same as the grey engine in my other ute..can someone please confirm whether they are one and the same?
Engine number buried under 40 years of crud!

Sold the FB ute shell I had on here to a wrecker in rural NSW. Dave at Grenfell Spares 02 6343-1481

He has quite an amazing selection of all things old Holden. Saw at least 5 FX utes, 1 FE various FCs,stacks of EK.

Also he has been buying up a lot of NOS stock from other wreckers. Gaskets/Brake components/carb kits/fanbelts etc etc. Saw some really great dashboards and twin manifolds for instance.

Even better he freights all around oz.
