Howdy all,
Long time no post. Been pretty crook.
Now trying to tidy up around home.

Have FE FC sunvisor, all complete, no damage and has all brackets etc. $100

Towbar that came off sedan complete with tongue, which I think is non-original. $40

I'm also going to sell the 'Poo wagon' minus motor, box and dash  for around $600 to a forum member.
Please email me for details and photos. adarrell@tpg.com.au

I'm in Ballarat. Can't drive at present so not much help with transport. Could get to courier though.

I'll give it a week here and what's left can go to eBay.
Thanks,
Alan

8  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Timing gear differences on: May 04, 2009, 08:04:48 PM
G'day all,
Chapter 2 on the timing gear.
After a phone call today to Master Engineering (wrong name last post) a very informative Rick I believe filled us in on what was the problem and it was with the remains of the fibre gear, NOT THE METAL GEAR!

Great customer service too. The engine did run with the dots apart, albeit not well! Now to line the dots up and all we be well. I have a good grey that will be used soon and I know what gear I'll be changing before the engine even goes into the FE I have in mind for it.

Learned a lot of valuable knowledge in this little episode.

EffCee,
Thanks heaps.
I sure didn't expect such a prompt, thorough and informed reply.
Every question answered and all concerns addressed - fantastic.
This is a terrific forum for a variety of reasons, especially the knowledge, experience and enthusiasm of those who contribute to it.

Mike,
Hmmmmmmmm!!!!!

I'll keep thinking for you. Imagine the sense of achievement you will experience once you've solved this challenge and can drive in reverse without so much as a hint of shudder. You will soon earn the title of guru to others who may have the same problem but have just accepted it as par for the course.

Still way better than moderns that come to an abrupt halt and won't allow you to drive them whilst you solve the problem. Would be handy to plug ina laptop though to sus the problem. Or on second thoguhts, maybe not.

Mike,
This problem is usually an alignment or wear problem somewhere.
A couple of suggestions:

Was the face of the flywheel nice and clean(no oil or grease)  or was it scored or marked with hotspots or small cracks? - needs refacing if it is.
Are the gearbox mountings in good nick and tight?
Are the u bolts tight on the diff and rubber insulators in good nick?

Hope it might help.

12  Technical Board / General Technical / Timing gear differences on: May 03, 2009, 07:49:43 PM
G'day all,
Whilst installing a metal timing gear (from JP Engineering) in a mates FE today we discovered some interesting differences and possible anomolies.

1. The position of the dot on the steel camshaft gear was one tooth out with respect to the keyway from the original fibre gear. Can anyone provide any explanations?

2. In the original GMH FE manual it says to line up the two dots before sliding the camshaft into position. Once the helical effect of the gear takes effect this means that the two dots will be one tooth apart once the camshaft is 'home.'HuhHuh?

3. Should the dots line up before or after installation, both on the metal gear and the fibre one also, given the difference I pointed out earlier.

Can someone explain to me in simple terms how to degree in a camshaft also?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Alan

Hey all,
Just to let everyone know that after a work-related trip to Mt. Gambier last week that travelling at dawn, dusk and at night seems to be treacherous in the Mt. Gambier area at present.
Returning to Portland from Mt. Gambier one night I had an ongoing battle to avoid 'roos and bush chooks, especially around the pine plantations.
There were plenty that had already been cleaned up on the road too.
Some locals told me that they are at the worst numbers ever seen.

Remember my father, many years ago, cleaning up a 'roo out of Hamilton one night in our FE special - grey with white roof and red Detriot flash - very smart combination. Unfortunately it fixed up the LHS guard and bumper very nicely.

15  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: EH column in FC wiring on: July 22, 2007, 07:52:43 PM
Thanks again Ken for more great advice.
I would like to use a shorter column in my FC Wagon.
Just one question if I may.
When you say to use an EH column, do yoy mean the whole sherbang, steering box and all?
Or do you mean to adapt the EH column to the FC steering box?
Thanks,
Alan

17  General / General Board / Re: Smiths Gauges on: July 18, 2007, 10:05:15 AM
G'day,
From what I can remember it looks as if the gauges were taken from a Phase III........Not F*#@!!!
From a Phase III Standard Vanguard. around 1962-1964 or thereabouts
Interesting as these gauges are from a positive earth car.
Does anyone know if that would have an impact?

18  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: Radiator wanted on: May 12, 2007, 07:10:10 AM

We want a HR Manual radiator?

19  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Radiator wanted on: May 04, 2007, 01:37:36 AM
G'day all,
Not really FE or FC but sort of.
Jake needs a really good HD or HR manual radiator for his HR Premier.
We have a really good original FE or FC honeycomb radiator that we would swap.
Any takers?
Thanks,
Alan and Jake
