General / General Board / Re: R M Williams Rig

Hi John253a The driver told us that the truck was supplied to R & M Williams for free but the paintwork cost more than the truck. He has a great job driving the rig all around Australia setting up and serving in the mobile shop at different events. His wife is also employed by Williams and drives a company Ford F250 Ute and 25ft Jayco caravan to the same events as their accomodation. The ute is painted the same as the truck and looks just as good. At present they are up in Queensland doing a show. If you liked the photo you woud just love to see the rig as it stands. When not away it is parked on the side of the road in Remembrance Drive Bargo NSW just north of the township. It is well worth a look for anyone wishing to driver down to see it. Dennis

General / General Board / NEV's Steering Column Rattle Finally Conquered
|
on: January 07, 2014, 07:54:37 PM
|
The steering column rattle plaguing NEV since he was purchased has finally been conquered and what a relief to finally drive him without having to constantly hold the gear stick to prevent it from rattling. Thanks go to all those members who offered advice as to the cause and to Ken (mcl1959) for the spring which did improve the situation a little. The final solution came down to wear in the gear selection rods and the selector levers on the gear box. These items were only given a cursory inspection previously as they looked as though they had been replaced during NEV's preservation work. The selector rods were newly cadmium plated and the selector levers freshly powder coated as were all the fittings etc. under the vehicle. Whilst installing the newly acquired 3.55 Diff. Centre Greg decided to carefully check all the components under the car and found that the gear change levers and rods were original and had only been prettied up with paint and plating. Removal of the components in question, a little welding to fill the holes and the wear and a short period of time grinding and re-drilling a few holes a nice tight fit was achieved. All parts now re-fitted to the vehicle and a few short test runs down the drive it was time to take NEV onto the Highway and head south for the ultimate test. What a difference, the gear changes are quiet and so smooth and the best thing....NO RATTLE. With the very quiet 2.55 Diff Centre and the rattle fixed an on the car all wheel balance next Monday should see all problems we had with the car sorted out and very smooth driving ahead.

General / General Board / Re: Nev is in the spotlight again

Hi John It must be Nev's month. He will appear in the 2014 Classic Car Magazine Year Book along with Gregs 1959 FC and the 62 EJ which is due to hit the newstands in early January. Since October he has picked up three awards at the various shows we have taken him to. We are continually improving Nev ironing out little problems as they occur. Today Greg and I finally got around to fitting a 3.55 diff to him and he now purrs along at 60mph like he had a new lease of life. So smooth and so quiet. The next job is to tidy up the tail end underneath the car. That will just about make the Nev look like new.

What a great day at the Bargo Brigaide Aid Car Bike & Truck Show yesterday. The organizers must be very pleased with not only the turn out of participants but also the general public. The event was a roaring success. Greg, Ella and I being locals arrived early and was soon joined by Bruce and Janand then Rusty. Jim and his family dropped in to say hello later in the morning. It was great to have a chat with Russell (another local) and to see his many fine cars he had on show. Martyn from Shell Harbour dropped in for a chat and to report on the progress of his FC restoration as did Dave in his international ute which he had on display nearby. After the car show and presentation of trophies the afternoon was taken up with live entertainment and a full show at 5.30pm. As the weather was starting to cloud over and the wind increasing Diane, Ella and I decided to call it a day and headed home (just across the road). At 7.30pm the main concert commenced and although we decided to stay indoors you could hear quite clearly the artists performing and they really sounded great. The day was a real success however it could be said that the low point was the manner in which the hoons left the car show. It was a pity their was not a presence of the police around at that time. Why is it that you put a fool in a V8 and they think they have to show the world what inmature dills they are. Maybe they have crueled any chance of future like events at this venue. I guess time will tell. Dennis

Hi Bruce, Diane and I will be there to support those Rural Fire Service Volunteers who did such a magnificent job protecting us from the recent fires. They deserve all the support we can give them. How about it? Will we see a big roll out of Fe and Fc's from our club? Dennis
