Hi there, got a start on my FE Ute after a few questions on here, thanks Ken and others....its been in sheds for 20 odd years and thought it about time it got some love. It has a 202 in it which I will keep in there and also keep the 14" rims, and HR Front and Rear end. Everything else I will keep standard, so to look at to the untrained eye it should look original. Got it stripped down quite easy really, only a couple of stuborn nuts, probably the worst in the subframe outer legs, sound familiar? Now to deal with some rust, been looking at some other peoples jobs of fixing the subframe attachment point, it doesnt seem too scary, and other thank the usual places there is some in the wall infront of the back wheel above the sill, does someone do a panel for there or do I use a door repair section? Anyways, here is some photos and I will keep bombarding everyone with questions. This bit in front of the wheel?

Technical Board / Modification Help / What Rims are these?
|
on: March 07, 2012, 12:00:03 PM

Hi there, couple more questions, searched all through the forum and everyone seems to be running different combinations so thought I would ask about mine... Firstly, can someone confirm these rims are HT? They came off the FC stud pattern and are 14" so they are older holden. Now, if these are HT/HG what is the best/easiest to get/fit brake setup to put on. I have a HR Disc Front End and HR drum rear end, I want to keep these rims if I can. I have HQ stub axles and no brake gear so need to know what to get, so I need calipers and rotors and maybe new linkages? Torana calipers seem scarce, I am thinking the easiest way would be HT calipers and rotors, HK are more common though, can I use these? What other options do I have? If I use HK do I need HK steering Linkages as well??

Hey Ken....found the wreck that I pinched the brown covered seat from....couple of problems, a tree has decided to fall over it, and someone has nicked the id plates on you, it looks like it has had an aftermarked special upgrade, neither the white paint or the green are the original, the engine bay shows some of the brown which is a match to the brown vinyl on my seat, there was also a vinyl door trim to match in the wreck still, the brown vinyl is definantly original. Got my HR front end, just fixing up a few bits for it and have also managed to find the last couple of bits I was missing, have started stripping and blasting in a fortnight or so. Does anyone do the vinyl door trims to match original that I can buy and fit myself? Also someone will know, did the FE come out with those built in armrests in the front trims or only the FC's, was thinking of getting a set of '56 Chev armrests, is this what an FE would of had?

Thanks for that guys, really is a help, as I wouldnt have a clue, gets tricky when someone else has changed bits and peices. So the verdict seems to be a HD/HR which suits me fine, im sure a brake shop could whip me up a new handbreak line, the speedo one might be a bit trickier, any tips there??
Thanks again everyone

Is this an ok fit? Was planning on putting something different in it as I figured it was standard, so dont mind changing it, the brake lines seemed to be original, is a HD much the same as the HR or is it worth changing it over?

Hi guys, took a back wheel off and got you a couple of pictures...now, so far my ignorance has been obvious but I think here I may be improving?? Im thinking the fact that the bump stops dont line up and the hand brake and speedo cables are not connected may be a good sign they have whacked a different back end in here?? How did I go? Also the drums look a little red to be 50 years old?? What do you think? It had the standard front end so i have no idea why they would have changed this if they have, but it may be a better match for the Disc front end if i am going to leave the 14" wheels? I think the shockers might look a lot older, do you reckon they are original?

Haha, thanks Ken....theres not too many lights where I am so I might leave it as is for a while, and try and find a 3:36 when I get it on the road, how can I tell if they have just put in a new diff or if the whole rear end is changed? Could this diff of fitted into a standard back end?

Thanks for that mate, gave it a good scrub and found the numbers, it says 3/08 which way does that work, does this make it faster or slower? is this a good fit for an FE?

Hi guys, wondering if someone can help me, been searching the forum but cant really be confident of the answer. I have attached a couple of photos of the diff in my FE ute, it has a 202 and 3 speed gearbox in it but everything else is prety stock, wondering if this diff is also, or if it is a different ratio. The only numbers I could find seem to be 26E5 not sure if I am looking in the right place or not, but figured one of you guys would know for sure. The ute has I think HK rims on it with 205/75/14's on it, what would be the recomendations for a diff to replace this one with if I do??

Ken Ill have to have a think where I got that brown seat from, it was almost 20 years ago...see what I can come up with, I think it might have been out of a wrecked FE Ute that is up the back of a neighbours property, will see if thats right or not. I think I have found a HR front end down here for it, it is a disc front end, but doesnt have stub axles or rotors, HR ones seem expensive, he said you can run Torana Stubs and Rotors on it? Is this correct?
Have made some enquirys regarding sandblasting, and cutting out the rust, would you normally get the blasting done first and then primed before going to the welders? Also ballpark how much are companies charging for a full sandblast on the mainland, thinking I might have to do some hagling down here, only a few options. The rust seems to be only in the normal places doors, infront of back wheel, spare tyre door, behind the headlights and floor pans and try underside, if it didnt have as much I would be keen to polish it up and leave it as is, but it is a bit far gone for that I think, at least I shouldnt find anything that has been painted over!

Thanks again, Weddo, I sent you a message but not sure if you got it, i'd be keen to grab your spare front end if i can? I am trying to upload a photo to this post and would appreciate your comments, I am now thinking these are not FE hubcaps, does anyone know what they are off? How do I tell if it is still running the same front end, if they are different rims maybe it has been changed? they are definantly drums though. I know mine has square blinkers, but what else looks fiddled with?

Thanks for your help guys...ill chase up some of these parts and get her rolling....Ill shoot over to the shed and take some photos shortly to put here. I think it has the standard FE rims, will I be able to put these on the HR discs?
Also does anyone do the replacement ute tray interior side panels, I only have the quarter ones at the back.
