4  Technical Board / Modification Help / ive got a idea for heaters on: September 23, 2006, 02:30:17 AM
was in at hardware store today and had a brainwave regarding a heater demister for any early holden.

!st... you need a 12v- 240v inverter, wire up to car (maybe increase alternator from 35amp to a 80amp???)

2nd... then you need a cheap 240v house  fan heater
plug it in youve got heat!!!!

couldnt be easier could it?Huh??

6  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Piston Position on: July 17, 2006, 01:49:08 AM
If the dot is 90' to the gudgin pin then that dot MUST face towards the front of the engine, also a quick check on deck height would go astray. quick check is to put clay or playdo  on to 1 installed piston, bolt head on with gasket and bring that piston up to TDC.
Remove the head and measure thickness of clay if you have less than 10 thou dont use them!!!!

Will see what i can find out tomorrow

do it do it do it!!!!! one of the best things ive done to my motor just go to the wreakers get a VH blue motor dissy and make sure you take note of wiring and grab the coil as well!
also make sure that you change the crappy plastic gear to the metal one from the old points dissy

AS they say "just do it!!!!!"

13  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: what the hell!! on: January 19, 2006, 04:10:37 AM
problem has been fixed Grin Grin Grin
I went to remove the dissy and put a HQ one in when as I pull the dissy out of the block, I notice something very strange ( shouldn't they have a gear at the bottom of the dissy with ALL the teeth on them, oh bugger!!! this ones missing almost half of them )..
What to do?? well that old HQ dissy got a old fashion steel gear where the Commodore has got ""it'll break"" plastic gear.
10min with a pin punch and a hammer  swapped the broken gear with a steel gear .
put dissy back in block  set the timming and she fired first time Grin Grin Grin Grin
cheers everyone for their help
Tony
14  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: what the hell!! on: January 18, 2006, 05:48:55 PM
timing gears arent stripped as I have compression on all .
checked coil thats fine

next thing to do is to pull dissy out and replace with a old HQ model I have lying around, see if thats makes any differents?

17  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: electronic dizzy on red six on: December 20, 2005, 05:53:32 PM
Dave im running a commy dissy and im running at 6 deg with a  idle of 700 RPM.
Just check that your timing marks are true by doing a top dead center test with number 1 spark plug removed, or a degree wheel on the crank sharft.

19  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: carby/brake m/c. woes on: November 18, 2005, 05:59:01 PM
question#1 if the carb is still on the car spray some carb cleaner down the guts of it while she is idiling,DO NOT REV IT !!!!!.
Best stuff iwill always use is STD carb cleaner
If the carb is off the car strip it down and let it sit in a closed tin of carb cleaner over night, this stuff is like magic,

Question #2 try a new washer with a VERY light smear of grease on the surface where it joins to the m/cyl
was way work for me

Cheers Tony
