 Grin Grin Grin

There was an EH coupe with stretched front doors on ebay earlier this year.
Light pearl metallic green. Unfinished project , all painted, 179 HP / 4 speed , prem interior with A lot of work done .  Winder mechs modified to suit longer doors etc, Just needed glass cut to size and basic reassembling of odds and ends.
He ran the ad about 3 times and couldnt sell it with a Buy it Now of $3000.
My finger hovered over the "Bid" button a few times. But talked myself out of it. Undecided

3  General / General Board / Re: 3.55 diff on: July 17, 2008, 11:41:04 AM

Hi Guys
Rather than shuffle diffs around.
I suppose the quick fix of using 14" wheels to give a better hwy cruising speed @ lower revs is out of the question... especially if ya wanna remain stock looking.
The difference is near equivelant to changing your stock 3.89 ( grey) diff for a 3.55 (late 1963 onwards ) diff.
Hey dont shoot me.. just another alternative.... and probably a lot dearer by the time ya buy another set of 14" rims and tyres. But if you already have a set laying around....... wellllllll.

Hi FantaC
Not being a smart arse here.

There is an old saying.
"Its only worth what someone is willing to pay"

It all depends on how keen you are to sell it???
Auctions are fair way of getting an idea of what things are worth.
To "Test the water" why not throw it on ebay at a low start price and put a reserve on it that is what you consider it is worth.
IF it reaches reserve then you will be a happy seller. If it falls short of reserve .. well at least you will know what the ebay bargain hunters think it is worth. It takes just one wood duck with a pocket full of money to bid on it and you could end up with way more than you ever thought posible.

Always difficult for us to put a value on someone elses unfinished project by looking at pictures and descriptions. Never know whats missing and just how good the repairs are until you buy the car and start on the resto..

Good luck mate
7  General / General Board / Re: Ute Hard deck covers on: December 11, 2007, 02:41:06 PM
Whoooooooooooooaaaa Shocked
That is a bute ute.

I notice that the front edge of the deck is trimmed back to allow it to hinge up without biting into the metal behind the back window. This seems to be a problem highlighted in the thread i dug up when i searched for info about these covers.
Is it water tight across the front edge??
I wouldnt mind having a go at making one out of 12 mm marine ply  Undecided seal it with a good primer and then cover it with vinyl..
My thoughts would be to put a slight "crown in it . say about 12mm at the peak in the middle to help shed off any water. I seem to remeber seeing one that is very similar to the bemboka covers but it had about 6mm of medium density foam stuck on it , then covered in vinyl . looked cool and was sorta spongey when ya pushed down on it.
Maybe this is the way all new hard tarps are.. i dunno . i see a lot of em getting around but have never actually had a close look ( or touch).

Anyway Chuck. Thanks for the pix. Love your work

Thanks for the info Ken.
I knew van springs where beefy suckers compared to sedans.
FCCOOL
Yup that was me at AHD with teardrop caravan and HX - GTS panel van.
The HX is now living in windsor.
I bought the FC panno the same weeked i sold the HX panel van.

I live in Barnsley which is the next suburb west of Edgeworth.

I can get an extra leaf made and fitted by Dumbrell springs to the 4 leaf set up for $70 a side. I figure that still wont be enough to hold the arse of the pvan up when i drop a full sized 1954 ply caravan on the towball.

Phill will probably have some over there . just havent caught up with him yet.

Hi Ed
No big rush.
Yesterday will be fine Tongue
. I can come down one arvo after work or maybe next saturday.
Its your call mate . Grin
Just post here or PM me when you have them out of the car. I have posted the same adv on the FB/EK forum and have had a reply from "FB Mad" at Scone. He is no close to Newcastle than you are !!
Can ya pm me with a price???
They need to be at least 6 leaves . I think wagons are only 5.
But if you are pulling them out of a ute and they are originals they should be what i am after.

Like the title says. I am chasing a pair of panel van or ute rear springs.
I think they are either 6 or 7 leaf ?? Does anything else fit them?? EJ to HR ... or are they wider??
The ones in my van at the moment are 4 leaf ( sedan??) springs and the van wobbles around like soggy sponge cake Tongue.
I checked back through the for sales and found "fast Eddies" advert from a few months back .. unlucky already gone... ooooooooo Bugger Undecided

Prefer local around Newcastle but will travel to Sydney if need be.

Thanks

18  Technical Board / General Technical / wide rim offsets on: November 19, 2007, 11:29:15 AM
Hi guys

Can someone that is running wide rims on the FE/FC  ( without modifications to the bodywork/gaurds) tell me what the offset of their rims are.
I.E: measurement from back of rim hub face to outside edge of rim.
I have about 3 sets of dragway wheels all 7 ".... 2 sets of 13" , 1 set of 14". they all have around 80mm to 100mm offest .
All scrape on the gaurds both front and back on the FC panelvan.

The way i see it the offset would have to be no more than about 50 mm on a 6" rim to fit under the guard without rubbing on every bump or on full lock left or right.

Thanx in advance

19  General / General Board / Re: Seatbelts on: November 19, 2007, 11:19:32 AM
Hi All

All of what has been said is correct.
If the car wasnt offered new with the belts you dont have to retro fit them (NSW).
If they are fitted in the car you must wear them... all states

Something else to stick in the memory banks when talking seat belts.
I had a yarn to one of the mechanical engineers who is RTA accredited for inspecting modifications to cars , hot rods etc.
I was always under the impression that if are car was repowered with a larger motor  etc you where required to fit retractable belts . He stated that lap sash is fine with him.
To me retractables are a better option . when fitted properly,  they should retract fully and not hang in the door opening ready to stuff your door when ya shut it like the lap sash belt buckle quite often does if you arent carefull. Angry

20  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / Re: 13 inch portawalls on: November 15, 2007, 12:30:56 PM
Yo

Just got off the dog and bone to california speed supplies. They have had 13" portawalls on order from Pakistan ( of all places) for the past 6 months. They are expecting confirmation of a delivery date over the next few days... could be another 6 months before they are landed here in OZ Cry Undecided.
Cost $125.00 for a set of 4.

So.....
I rang Antique tyre supplies at ingleburn .
Yep got 13s in stock @ $135 a set. Smiley Wink Cheesy Grin are 1 3/4" wide (1.75)
Its a done deal they will be in the mail today.
I won a set of 13" moon caps on ebay last night for $76. They are also paid for and should be here by mid next week.

Isnt the plastic card and direct deposit a wanderfull thing. Tongue Cool

Couple the flappers and discs up with Als $200 torana wheel and tyres bargain and hopefully they will all stuff in under the van on each corner after i lower it a couple of inches..... might be wishfull thinking with &" rims but hopefully they will have the right offset. will find out tomorrow at Als.

Oh bye the way. The el cheapo maxxis and sumimoto  14" tyres are on offer on a new "Holden parts only" ebay type site. From memory they are all 75 series. Undecided
