Howdy All,

Due to my recent purchase of a new 1962 Chev truck, the FC project needs to find a new home.  I have owned the car for 10 years and it is currently partially disassembled bit is a rolling shell.  Car was exported to PNG during the 1970s and returned to Australia in the 1980s.

DETAILS:
-  1958 FC Special Sedan.
-  132 engine rebuilt approximatly 4 years ago, still wrapped in plastic and has never been fitted to the car.  Bored out to 149, converted for unleaded, oversized valves, mild cam, brand new water pump still in box.
-  2 brand new extreeme fuel systems stromberg carbs with Cain twin carb manifold.
-  Gearbox un-restored but was worked well before being removed from the car.
-  2 Speed electric wiper motor with FC mounting plate and wiper arm brackets fitted.
-  Rebuilt generator.
-  Reasonably straight body, rust in the usual places, would reccomend an inspection to guage the overall condition.  I have included photos of visible rust, but can also give further information over the phone if required.
-  Sub-frame has previously been removed, sandblasted and is currently in primer along with the fire wall.  Sub-frame is structurally sound, some pinholes are visible in the sheet metal.
-  Front cross member has been removed, sandblasted and powdercoated black.  Fitted with new shock absorbers and rubbers.  Original springs re-installed.
-  Vehicle comes will all bumpers which are showing signs of surface rust/pitting.
-  Stainless mouldings all in good straight condition.  Minor dent in passenger side flash, I have a spare replacement for that.  1 new rare spares side emblem.
-  Dash has been removed as shown in the photos.  All components have been wrapped and labelled.
-  Wilsonia gauge in good working order, photo shown.
-  Original interior in good condition for age, Missing drivers door trim, hood lining sagging in places but has no sign of rips.
-  No floor mat, floor pan looks solid, few minor patch ups required.
-  Workshop and owners manual as pictured along with various other original documentation.
-  Various other spare parts all boxed ready for transport.

Vehicle is available for inspection in Tingalpa Brisbane, I currently work in western qld and am only home 1 week in every 3.  I will be in Brisbane between 7/8/13 and 12/8/13 for anyone who would like to come and have a look.  I can also arrange for the car to be viewed at other times if need be.

Good morning everyone,

DVD arrived on Tuesday and I gave it a watch last night.  Very impressed!

I have always been an avid fan of what goes on out at Bonneville, but never knew too much about the history of it, nor anything about Ab Jenkins the man who started it all.  The DVD follows Abs career as a driver starting from his days running across America, around the old board tracks and  competing in hill climb events.  It follows the progress of how he built up various cars for out and out speed and endurance:  Pierce Arrows, Duesenbergs all the way though to the purpose built aero engined Mormon Meteor III.  Ab Jenkins makes modern day drivers look like pampered babies:  He was sitting in a car for 24 hours straight doing 120MPH+ in the 1920s and 30s, no windscreen, a soft leather helmet and a pair of goggles, stopping only to have a glass of juice and a glass of milk every time the car needed a top up.  Classic line from the movie taken from one of his pit crew goes along the lines of:  Ab never got out of the car, he never ate during his runs, all he ever did was drink milk and juice, god only knows where it all went because there certainly wasn't any time for toilet breaks when Ab was driving. In his 24 hour runs Ab would break up to 50 different land speed records (some still stand today) and then he would invite others to come and try to push his them further so he could break them back!

The racing history is in the movie is fantastic, but it is the back story that really struck a note with me.  When Ab semi-retired from racing he donated his car to the city he was from, where it was proudly displayed in their council building.  After his death it got neglected, kids were allowed to climb on it, steal things off it, stick rubbish down it's exhaust.  After years of trying Abs son Merv buys the car back from the city and sets about restoring it to it's former glory.  This is a genuine love story, a man and his Dad's car..........I wont spoil this part, just recommend you grab a copy and have a watch.  Seeing his reaction when the car is fired up for the first time in 50 years defiantly brought a tear to my eye.

It isn't all that hard to get to Lamborghini, Ferrari or Ducatti from Bolonga, however if you don't have a car things would be harder.  We went out to Ferrari first which was about 30 minutes drive from Bolonga, then came back to town via Lambo, if you wanted to go to Ducatti it was closer to town again.  I am not sure about public transport or busses in the area, however I would recommend just hiring a car.  It isn't that expensive and the same road out of Bologna basically takes you to all three places, if you work it right.  Ferrari is most definitely the best of the 2 that I went to, however, I didn't do the factory tour at Lambo, just looked around their museum/showroom.  Ferrari just has so much for history, so naturally so much more to show.

Honestly mate, if you are going to look at Lambo it is worth the extra 15 - 20 minute drive to check ferrari out as well.

I will 100% vouch for the threaded rod method.  I spent the best part of 2 days using a set of spring compressors to get my springs out, had about 20 slip offs and almost lost an eye, finger and every other body part that was within 5 meters of the bloody thing.

After going through that ordeal I was about to go to a suspension shop to get them to put it all back together but decided to throw a post up on this forum first.  Threaded rod was recommended, gave it a crack, had it all back together in about 20 minutes.

Cheapest and easiest solution EVER!  "Where there is a Willy, There is a way!"

Morning all you QLDERS!

Just flicking through a few posts on another forum and came across an add for a Show and Shine and Swap meet (Northern Districts Swap Meet and Show and Shine) at the Redcliffe Show Grounds this Sunday (20-3-2011) starting at 6am.

Might dust off the old Vauxhall and take it for a well earned drive and go looking for a few bits and pieces for the FC!

Anyone else going along?

Gday Everyone,

Was at the hairdresser yesterday and picked up a REALLY old version of streetmachine they had sitting on the rack.  Flicking through the pages I came across a pretty trick looking FE-FC radical custom that I hadn't seen before.

I am not sure if you would call it a ute OR a sedan but it was basically a ute front with a sedan rear.  The trick was that the boot section (of the sedan) had been lengthened to form like a long tonneau cover similar to what you see on modern utes.  No tail gate at all just the boot rolling down like a sedan.

The car was orange and had VT Commodore alloy wheels on it.

Anyone seen it, know it, have pictures of it?
