Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Removing motor from FE

Spoke to Chris Dimoff, and twisted his arm into building me a tough manual valve bodied traumatic. I'm supplying him my core and he will do the rest. I was lucky enough to pick up a convertor from gumtree that was a special build from Allfast Convertors. Based on the Gemini stall, but custom built from there. When I picked it up, it was unused, and had texta markings on it - I took a punt and rang them up - the bloke asked for a pic to be text to him ,and rang back informing me that it was a special build for one of his mates and was a lucky find woohoo $90.00 well spent!!

Blue 202 block fully checked, prepped and bored forged slugs, file back rings starfire rods, ARP bolts and studs h/v oil pump etc 12 port head hand ported race job done on it by a WA old timer, after market balancer, SFI Approved Flex plate.
I didn't realize how much one of these little suckers would cost to build strong - could have built a bloody tough ls1 for similar money!!

Already got a traumatic and B&M shifter but want to ensure Im not pulling it out for long time, hence replace it now with the motor
We have built up a very hot 208 blue motor full of all the good gear, incl a custom 12 port head, and Ive picked up a custom hi stall based on a Gemini convertor
Gotta find a manifold for it now as well

Technical Board / Modification Help / Removing motor from FE
|
on: March 17, 2013, 02:20:16 PM

Well the time has come to remove the old 202 motor from my FE and replace it with the hot 208 that I had built
First qu - do I remove bonnet from car to make the job easier?
Do I remove motor and trimatic in one go, or split them
What the best option auto wise - Im staying traumatic, but do I build a strong 6cyl one, or get a v8 one modified to fit? - this trans will cop a bit of a hiding so needs to be relatively tough.

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Identify Block as Red or Blue motor?

Shoot - just realised that now that we have worked out the motor is a red one, I am worried the head isnt a 12 port, hence intake manifold and extractors will need changing.
I have a set of VH commodore blue motor extractors and std intake - will the extractors be a close fit, and can intake be modeded to accept holley?
Damn, I thought this would be an easy quick swap - DOHHHHHHHH.

Technical Board / General Technical / Identify Block as Red or Blue motor?
|
on: August 27, 2012, 11:22:12 AM
|
Can anyone id a block from the engine no etc to help me find out if the motor in my FE is a red or blue motor
I was informed by an engine reconditioner that both red and blue motors cam stamped as 3.3l???
I am currently building up a hot 3.3l black motor with blue motor head for the old girl
The logic behind this is that he also told me that starfire rods wont clear the sump on a red motor, but the blue sumps had clearances ground into them??? I am trying to find out if I need a different sump now or not.

Yesiam
I know of a bloke who can do all of the work you require
He is down in Busselton though
He specializes in v8 and v6 conversions
I just had my FE at his workshop for collapsable steering with commodore rack - steering is now awesome!!
Next is a commodore diff and brakes all round, and convert the car to run 15" commdore rims.
You have to accept that non of this comes cheap, so you have to love the car!!
Ring Phil - 0415 745703 - if he doesnt answer first time keep trying as he will eventually!
All the best with it all

Well I just had a VS holden rack front mounted to a fully rebuilt HR front end, along with a 3" shortened and collapsable steering column added to the old girl.
Wow how easy is the steering now
We have had a Qld bloke move over here (Phils diffs and suspension) - he made up the column for me
The next step now is to drop in a commodore diff, and swap all brakes and suspension, and we are well on our way to getting the old pig to handle/steer and stop.
Im going to go the commodore stud pattern as rims are freely available for that style.
