Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: turbo 253 into old Holden.

Turbo in the rear ?? Wouldn't that end up giving you about half an hour of lag ?? Add an intercooler, and you'd be 3 or 4 miles past the christmas tree before the turbo did anything at all. I dunno, just goin on my experience with big diesels with intercoolers and turbos. Maybe you could stomp on it, back off, and wait for the effects !!

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Head Tension
|
on: November 17, 2006, 01:41:20 PM

From memory, and believe me, it's a while ago, but there is only 1 or 2 of the head bolts that go through the water jacket, and these are the only ones that need the GM Sealer. A very good tip is to put a smear of grease on the underside of the head of the bolt. Virtually eliminates friction, which means that your torque wrench is measuring torque only, and not bolt-to-head friction as well. It's also amazing the difference it makes to the "feel" of the procedure, if that makes any sense. Cheers, Chesy.

I don't wanna sound like the forum smartarse or anything, but yes Ret, the sunshine coast is generally considered to be in Queensland, and check out the lady's email address, it's kinda a dead giveaway. Sorry, but it is all there right in front of you

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Commodore diffs

Maybe someone should start a new thread with the pics of the red EJ. THis guy has managed to fit 2 strut towers, presumably with the springs and everything inside them, and a V8 into a showroom engine bay. Where the hell do the exhausts run ?? I assume he has gone to rack and pinion, so where is the rack ?? If this is possible, anything should be. Maybe this is the guy I need to talk to about powering a moke with a 350 !

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Fuel Gauge Inaccuracy
|
on: June 15, 2004, 07:20:01 PM

This begs a question Ol Girl. Have you sorted out the slow starting trouble ?? Being that the fuel guage is an electrical device, and you were having electrical problems, maybe this is where you should be looking. I don't know about the older holdens, but I chased an overheating problem in a commodore a couple of years ago for months. After I had invested several hundred dollars in new radiators, fans, auxilliary fans, fan shrouds etc, I discovered that the temperature was never as high at night time regardless how hard you drove it. It never had as much fuel in the tank at night time either (insert illuminated light globe inside head). The dash in a commodore runs on about 8 volts, courtesy of an onboard voltage regulator, which when stuffed allows the dash to run at battery voltage, which with engine running is around 13.8 volts.....not too far off double. Headlights on, with 90 watt low beams, and the voltage would drop, causing a drop at the guages. From memory, a new regulator was a 3 second job once the dash was out, and cost me less than $10. Does an FC/FE have a similar thing in the dash ??

If the answer is that simple, maybe Rare Spares should look into replacing at least one member of their staff. I mean, geezus, I might not have known the answer, but surely the Rare Spares guy should know.

Guys, guys, guys. I'm a true blue Holden fan myself, although a 55 Bel-Air is the ultimate goal, but check out page 14 of the February issue of Motor magazine. It has a front on shot of the new Stang taken from ground level, and if it isn't the sweetest thing I've seen in years, i don't know what is. Under US$20,000 too, but they're not sure if that's the 150kW V6 version, or the 224kW V8 GT. I'd almost buy one even if it was a turbo 4......if I had the spare change of course. Chesy.

For Sale and Wanted / Parts For Sale / 2.6 Commodore diff
|
on: November 16, 2003, 04:22:53 PM
|
Yep.......you read that right......it's a 2.6 ratio, heavy duty (whatever that means) commodore diff out of a VB SLE. Apparently the car was built with a 308 and turbo 400, but had a 253 trimatic combo when I got it, and let me tell you, with a really sick 253 and auto 240 kmh is a snack. With something a little more powerful, like a healthy grey (this 253 was really sick) I can personally guarantee you will run out of balls or road before the speedo stops climbing. You just won't take off terribly quickly. I have been done from the lights by a 250 XB. I realise that this isn't for everyone, but someone might be able to use it. I'm in Newcastle NSW. chesy@bigpond.......or ........0418 111569 Asking $100

For Sale and Wanted / Cars For Sale / 54 Plymouth
|
on: November 16, 2003, 04:08:36 PM
|
Yeah, I know this is probably the wrong place for this, and I am taking up valuable forum space, but surely someone here knows someone elsewhere who wants a 54 Plymouth sedan. I'm told it's a Belvedere fi anyone asks. Car is in need of restoration, body and drivetrain, but the old sidevalve six still runs, and quite well really. Dont know if the box or diff work, as I'm fairly confident the brakes don't, and I havent been game enuff to drive it. Needs to be taken back to bare metal, but there appears to be no rust to speak of. Seats have been done in red vinyl. Chrome needs replating. Car is 99% complete, even the cigarette lighter works. Comes with the original MOPAR radio also. Asking $1200 as is. I'm in Newcastle NSW. Contact me at chesy@bigpond.com or 0418 111 569 for any more details.
