1  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Wiring a towbar on: July 10, 2021, 10:06:19 AM
Hi Mike,
Ask me at Sunday's club run.
If you have run a cable all the way from the dashboard to the towbar, it's a piece of p***.

2  General / General Board / Toowoomba Holdens on: August 11, 2020, 10:23:25 AM
Here's a few old mates having a get-together on the eve of Toowoomba's Holden dealership pulling down the signage.
There were many, many old Holdens there, from 1951 to 1972, all very nice cars.

6  For Sale and Wanted / Cars Wanted / Re: Looking to buy a FC Holden on: February 07, 2019, 06:13:25 PM
You won't get much for 15K. You'd be looking at doing a LOT more work on it. (unless the current owner is really desperate.)
7  For Sale and Wanted / Parts Wanted / FC side windows wanted on: April 28, 2018, 09:32:57 AM
Hi,
I'm after a driver's window and both passenger side windows for my FC sedan.
Would anybody have some GOOD unscratched (reasonably priced) ones for sale?

Cheers,

8  For Sale and Wanted / Other Stuff Wanted / Re: EK / EH or HR Brake Pedal on: March 15, 2018, 09:24:08 AM
Done quite a few at Rods .I would move the brake to swing where the clutch is, weld a little platform for the brake light switch and go to a wreckers and get brake pedal pad [the rubber bit] then just weld extra pedal to the accelerator side of the existing pedal to fit the pedal pad . This moves the pedal pushrod over so you can fit a larger booster where the clutch master was .

9  Technical Board / General Technical / Re: FC ignition wiring on: February 27, 2018, 11:17:03 AM
With standard wiring, there are only 2 wires on the coil.
One comes from the ignition switch (terminal marked IGN on the switch).
The other wire goes to the distributor (points).
There should be no connection from battery to coil other than through the switch.

The test for no spark at the points as written by Ken is correct but may also indicate a faulty condenser.

Prof.
10  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: FC Coil mounting point on: November 18, 2017, 09:40:21 AM
My original October '59 FC has the coil between 3 and 4.
However, the FE workshop manual (p. 4) and the May 58 FC supplement (P. 4) both show it between 4 and 5.
Ellery's manual front page and some other pages have it between 3 and 4, but is from a later model, EK/EJ.
So it is most certain the position was changed during FC production, but exactly what date is unclear.
Thrown into the mix is the fact that when small changes such as this occurred, the overlap was a bit haphazard and some times took more than a month or two.
Another interesting point is that in every photo I dug up, the coil position was 3-4 on motors with paper air filters, but 4-5 on motors with oil bath air cleaners.
The date of change to paper filters is well documented as September '59, so there's another thought.
Anyway, you can guarantee that a late FC coil would be between 3 and 4.
By the way, Ol' Mate tells me the change was made to give better clearance and access to the vacuum pipe/diaphragm on the distributor. (not verified)

11  Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Stainless steel extractors ?? on: October 19, 2017, 07:36:29 PM
I got a twin carby set up with me FE and a alloy rapper cover.
To keep with this theme I am thinking of a set of s/s extractors off eBay to bolt up to it..

Has any one used these..?? Are they any good?

I have a set on my FC.
They look spiffo for a start, but boy do they need some work to keep shiny.
Also, the bottom end of the pipe is a bit too low and points down slightly, decreasing ground clearance considerably.
Not really recommended, but they DO look nice under the bonnet.

. . . and the windlacing came adrift, even on new cars.
Yes, constant battering by 'perps' heads will do that.

18  For Sale and Wanted / Other Stuff Wanted / Re: COLORTUNE on: September 19, 2016, 09:26:56 AM
Hi Everybody,
Does anybody have a Colortune kit they want to sell?
I sold mine about 30 years ago and can't remember what thread is standard, so I may also need an adaptor for the grey motor.
The only Aussie seller of new ones is out of stock, and he seems a bit pricey anyway.
Thanks Guys,
Prof.

P.S.
I've Just read about a "Gunson Gastester"
If anyone has one of those for sale I'd be interested.
Cheers,
Prof.
