The part number is in the FE parts book as 7411343 and 7411344. Then oddly in later parts books the descriptions and numbers have been deleted as if they never existed. The section is 15.222 TRIM - luggage compartment side. The numbers are in parts history section of the book marked as NLA. It’s almost as if GMH put them in the early production and then removed them from production and they disappeared as if they had never existed. Interested to know when they disappear- they are in my 1957 FX to FE book but are not in my FX to EJ book

The boot liner was only in the 1956 FE’s I think. It’s a hessian backed material which was glued to the inside of the rear quarter This was a 1956 FE that I owned, later FE’s I have owned never had it fitted

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Radiator/Cooling system queries

I’ve never used coolant, just water with an additive. I think to keep having no issues with cooling, the most important thing is to thoroughly flush the block out. There is a small drain tap below the exhaust manifold. Undo it and see if water come outs freely. If it doesn’t then you have sludge in the block. How thoroughly you clean is up to you. If you at least get water running through the drain plug that would be good, but you could go as far as removing all the welsh plugs to get between all the cylinders.

I’ve read a few threads about this topic and most people tend to think that sealant on the sheet metal side and nothing on the engine side is the best way. Sealant holds the gasket firmly in place while positioning and prevents unwanted movement of the gasket, especially the rocker cover. Grease is no good as it tends to let the gasket slide as you are tightening the bolts Don’t put sealant on both sides as this makes it difficult to remove the item, you often need to remove the rocker cover.

Steering wander should be one of those jobs you describe as being able to do yourself. Apart from the fixes mentioned re tyres and settings, a steering box reco is not too difficult to do if it is worn.

Wow, where to start is always a difficult problem. Firstly, buying something already modified can be a problem if is has no engineering. I would steer away from this unless the seller can provide a report. Disc brake front end and red motor are a tried and true combination. There have been thousands built over the years and the formula is straight forward as long as you keep up to date with requirements. Manual is harder to do than auto because of clutch master cylinder issues, but solutions are out there. Personally I think you would be better with an auto. I’ve built an FC with a Celica 5 speed and an FE with a Trimatic. Definitely don’t buy a car that you want to change the colour of. Getting a car resprayed now is not for those on a tight budget. I would be looking to buy the best body you can find unless you are a panel beater / spray painter who can do most of the work yourself. Have you driven a stock FC? They are not that bad to drive and a lot of fun can be had without being modified. Outings with car clubs offer support with possible break downs and problem solving. So recommendation. Buy a stock car in a colour you like. Make sure engine is in good order and give it a go before deciding to go down the modified route.

256-2058 is not a Holden colour. It has been identified twice by me as a mistake printing on a plate which was supposed to be 256-2038 which is Duchess green. All plates have two ways of identifying the external colours. One is in the trim line and the other is on the paint line. If the two identifiers don’t line up then an error has occurred.
Glade green is 585-9693 and is an FB EK colour.

Power brake should be attached to vacuum at the same spot in the manifold where the windscreen wiper pump is attached. If this is all correct and no leaks around this area, then I would suspect your booster is faulty or incorrect for the car. The booster should be VH24 as per original accessory equipment or VH 44 which is suitable for drum brakes.

Found it at last. Few little blemishes in the chrome key insert, the locking ring is very good with no damage. Key is a little worn, could do with a new one made. $25 plus postage which would be $9.50 Regards. Ken

Not much padding anywhere really. None above either the front or rear screens. Zulu confirms what I thought about the B pillar. The only padding I can recollect is on sedan C pillar over the wheel arch
