Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: wat dose SA reg require for a shortened diff?

Thanks heaps guys Will give Craig a ring and ask wat he recons. Spoke to rod from Rodtech who has built all my previous diffs for other projects & race cars Ive had over the years. He seems to think that its what ever makes the engineer happy, so over engineered or heavier duty the better. But that means more coin. So he may have an ulterior motive.$$$$ thanks again for all your help. "GO THE 308"

Technical Board / Modification Help / wat dose SA reg require for a shortened diff?

Gday has anyone in sa put a shortened diff in a fc because i want run a little bit of rim offset eg. 8" rim 3"3/8 back space. rang my engineer but he just didn't get it, saying why would you want to do that? I asked him what he would like to see as far as, just billet axel's with h/duty bearings or a full floating axel kit, like on a drag car. Can anyone give me an insite into expectations or know the legallities of this mod or give me someone to talk to. Have tryed to contact someone at Transport SA about this, but im pretty sure they answer the phone, put you on hold, point, laugh, then go home or something. Any help would be cool

Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: help with steering coloum

g,day i,ve just had a EK one shortened and set up to a LH/UC rack'n'pinion front end for a V8 conversion, by cutting the bottom off the EK column just past the fire wall and using LJ steering uni-joints down onto your rack. gives lots of clearance for extractors plus it still looks original inside eg. stock indicator switch & wheel. I had mine shortened 3" to get the wheel out of ya teeth

firstly sorry to ED i was only trying say how good i am with computers.............not very as you obviously picked. mate I'm trying to find someone in SA who has done a mod like mime to find out what Transport SA require as far as diff with billet axle's or full floater kit, to get a bit of rim offset. Or is it fully up to the engineer? I have spent hours on the phone trying to get through to someone at trans SA. have spoken to the engineer who was recommended by tony (the bloke who did the chassis work) He couldn't grasp why i wanted to run a shortened diff to get the offset i want ,saying that would cost money to build. As you all would know when putting a V8 in one of these cars legally its not the cheapest build choice. Any help would be great

General / General Board / new at inter-nerd,just got an fc

gday I'm new at this inter-nerd thing and i hope this works ,I currently own a couple of fc,s one good one and one really rusty one, these were a genuine barn find in a little town called "Chrystal brook" the good one is in bits, but is mint, been in the same shed for 37 years. The other old girl lived out the back under a gum tree for about the same time so she,s a bit far gone. Anyhow now I'm about to upset a few I'm sure. I am currently in the process of fitting a legal 308 th400 just got the car back from tony at "OL HOLDENS" in lonsdale, Adelaide. He,s just fitted a UC Torrie rack,n,pinion front end, large tunnel to clear th400,center floor mount h/brake,VN booster, shortened EK steering column so as to retain original steering wheel and indicators but gets rid of original gear stick mechanism. haven,t decided on a diff yet, thinkin bout a VR Ute diff as they are load rated. that way i could run some rim offset. eg 8"rim 3 3/8 back space. would love to here from other people in SA with modified fe-fc
