Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: wiring up a gen light

I think it has an inbuilt regulater. The original wire from the gen light has 12volts of power. I ve hooked it to the w (warning, I guess) lug on the alternater but it still wont charge. Does the alternater need to be earthed?, as mine is mounted through rubber cushioning mounts, so its maby not earthed.

Technical Board / Modification Help / wiring up a gen light
|
on: September 05, 2012, 08:12:07 PM

Hello all Does anyone have advice for wiring up the gen light on the dash when using a alternater? Bloke that sold me the alternater said to run a ignition power wire through the light, then off to the alternater to excite it into charging the battery. Its not charging at the moment. Any help would be good as I am afraid of damaging something. Andy

The wagon is going for blue plates this week, It needs wheels but I want to make sure it passes before commiting to them. The front and rear track width is 97mm difference, so I need to get rims made. Im thinking 15 inch rims. Probably Dragways. Anyone know other brands that do ofset rims to suit fc stud pattern? Jason, the sedan is resting in a shed. Freddy, I`ll see you at the meet.

Ive got a subframe under the house that I could borrow the number of. Trouble is if someone makes use of it in twenty years, RTA will ask questions then.

General / General Board / FC subframe numbers
|
on: August 01, 2012, 09:39:06 PM

Hello. Ive got a question about the number letter stamp on the inner guard of the subframe. After sandblasting, I found that it has no number. I guess it was a replacment after a crash. As I'm going roadworthy soon I think I need one for their paperwork. The body number on the firewall is FC/229 1964 M. Is there a way to work out what the subframe number should be so I can stamp it on?

Looks like a broken top ring. Happened to me years ago. I closed it up because it had scoured the bore, drove it for another 3000ks and then it realy got noisy, and smokey. If it hasn`t damaged the bore you should be able to replace, repair it. andy

As we know, it takes a bit of effort to keep an FC on the road. But getting that second one up to rego stage sometimes seems to much. I probably need a ten inch boot up the rear to get going again, or maby just a few questions answered. Ive got all the undercariage completed, drivetrain working, firewall painted. The body is blasted ,primed, and lightly bolted together. What is the best way to go about painting? Inside first? Paint all the door jams and panel joins first? Paint it all apart ? all together? What do you think? One more is that the vehicle appears to have been involved in an accident at some stage. It has a subframe with no numbers on it. Was it possible to buy new subframes from GMH? and do i need a number to register the car in QLD? Thanks andy

Did you ajust the slave cylinder pushrod? If clutch is stuck , sometimes tow starting , or towing the vehicle in gear and then pushing the gear shift out of gear can free it. Removing the box sounds like a last resort. Good luck andy

Graeme. When you pull the dizzy , with the points out , see if the pivit (swivel point on the points plate) is buggered. Mine was, and it took me a year and lots of frustration to find it. If the swivel is worn, its impossible to time correctly because the gap keeps changing good luck
